The Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer is the seven seat version of the regular C4 SpaceTourer - the car previously known as the C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso. The SpaceTourer name appeared in 2018 and the model went off sale in 2023, but throughout its time on sale it was one of the most stylish MPVs you could buy.
Age hasn’t wearied its styling but it has made the Grand C4 SpaceTourer more affordable, and it remains a more practical option than many of the SUV-style seven-seaters that dominate the market today. Our guide below should help you choose the best spec for your needs.
If you’re looking at similarly-sized MPVs, then the Volkswagen Touran, Ford S-Max and Kia Carens were some of the Grand C4 SpaceTourer’s rivals when new, all offering a slightly different experience while still majoring on a practical, adaptable interior space.
The regular Citroen C4 SpaceTourer was a great example of its type - a good-looking, practical MPV that also happened to be quite pleasant to drive and respectably frugal too. The Grand C4 SpaceTourer is more of the same - literally. With a pair of extra seats it can carry a couple more kids than the five-seat variant, and even if you don’t need that rear row very often, you can benefit from the extra boot space liberated when you fold the seats.
Striking looks mean you don’t feel like you’re sacrificing too much style, even compared with the more fashionable SUVs that have largely replaced MPVs like this Citroen. And while the similarly interesting cabin design might be a touch less practical than something a little more sensible, Citroen still loaded it with storage cubbies.
It’s an appealing environment to spend time in too. Those split pillars ahead of you give you a fantastic view of the road, less obstructed than you get with thicker single pillars. The cabin is bright and airy too, and while the driving experience isn’t as sporty as some rivals, the Grand C4 SpaceTourer is light and easy to drive and rides well too.
Refinement is also impressive, with quiet engines and less wind noise than you get from some seven-seat SUV rivals. There are plenty of safety features (more so on higher-spec cars), though as an older vehicle it does miss some of the tech you’ll find on a brand new vehicle. Buy a car with plenty of history and it’ll help minimise potential reliability issues too.
Cars like the Volkswagen Touran, Ford S-Max, and the Kia Carens are closest in concept to the Grand C4 SpaceTourer, lacking the Citroen’s style but all offering sensible touches and in the Ford’s case, fun driving characteristics. The Kia’s long warranty might once have been an advantage against these rivals, but the majority of cars are now old enough to be out of warranty.

Despite its modest size, the 1.5-litre BlueHDi 130 diesel is more than up to the job of moving the Grand C4 SpaceTourer along, and its economy is a strong mark in its favour too. It’s even pretty refined, and is probably the quietest of the engines offered in the car, partly as it doesn’t need working too hard to make good progress.
All trim levels are well equipped, but the sweet spot for us is Flair trim among earlier cars on account of features that could prove handy every day, such as the foot-operated tailgate, keyless entry, and extra storage spaces. Given the later mid-range Sense mostly corresponds to Flair trim, this is also worth a look - while Shine spec may be worthwhile for its extra standard driver assistance features such as active cruise control.
The list of trim levels below looks a little long and confusing, but it’s better to think of it as three trim levels, updated during 2020 - so Touch became Live, Feel became Sense, and Flair became Shine. We’ve listed all just to cover any small differences in specification, but it’s essentially a three-tier range. Some models were offered in ‘Plus’ form, which we’ve not covered below but naturally included a little extra kit over the standard car.

As the Grand C4 SpaceTourer arrived in 2018, all models are subject to the current VED or ‘road tax’ system which has a fixed rate for cars using different engine types. As all the Citroen models are either petrol or diesel, that currently means a bill of £180 per year.
You can find the entire Grand C4 SpaceTourer range between insurance groups 17 and 30, with automatic models generally a touch higher than manual variants. Those groups seem a little high though when you consider that the Volkswagen Touran can be found in groups 9-21.
