Used Pickup Trucks For Sale

Pickup trucks for sale with heycar

Once the preserve of industry and tradespeople, modern pickup trucks can do it all. They’ve become an increasingly popular choice for both personal and commercial use, combining the practicality of a working vehicle with the comfort and technology of a passenger car. This makes them suitable for a wide range of activities and lifestyles.

There are a range of pickup trucks for sale in the UK, from smaller options that could be ideal for town and city driving, to full-size trucks designed for heavy duty jobs. There are even some luxurious options to give you a pampering without sacrificing utility. While most pickup trucks in the UK are powered by diesel engines, there are some electric trucks making their way to the market, which will help to tick the environmental box as well as the comfort and practicality boxes. Read our guide to the best pickup trucks in the UK to find out more.

Why buy a used pickup truck?

There are people that will buy a pickup truck purely because of the chunky style and high, commanding driving position. But most customers will be driven by necessity. Where once pickup trucks were used for work in the week before duties switched to the family car at the weekend, now there are myriad trucks that will do both.

The best used pickup trucks are designed to carry heavy and bulky items in the back, whether for work or pleasure, and many feature four-wheel drive, which opens up new terrains to explore. Most 4x4 pickup trucks will tackle some pretty serious terrain, so muddy tracks and fields should hold no fear.

What are the best makes and models of pickup truck?

The UK has a wide range of pickup trucks to suit different needs and budgets. If your focus is primarily on a working truck, then the likes of the Mitsubishi L200, Isuzu D-Max and Toyota Hilux will be great places to start looking. They come in a range of trim levels, from basic and utilitarian to more luxurious, and have a well-established history of heavy duty capability and reliability. A value-for-money option is the Ssangyong Musso, which comes with an excellent warranty and has an impressively plush interior.

At the other end of the market are the more high-end models, such as the Mercedes-Benz X-Class and the Volkswagen Amarok, which have car-like levels of comfort and equipment inside, but can still be tough and capable when it comes to practicality. You could even consider a performance truck – Ford’s Ranger is a very impressive truck on its own, but the Ranger Raptor model is a potent performance model with sporty pretensions, a twin-turbocharged petrol V6 under the bonnet and upgraded suspension.

If you want an electric pickup truck then, unlike in the US where they’re increasingly popular, UK options are relatively few… for now. You could try the Maxus T90EV, which will give you around 200 miles of range per charge. But more models are on the way.

What should I look for when buying a pickup truck?

When looking at a pickup truck you should consider what you’ll be using it for. If you plan to tow a trailer or caravan, then look at the towing capacity, and also consider the payload space in the back. A single-cab pickup will give you the most space to carry things, but at the expense of passengers, while a double-cab will add rear seats but reduce the amount of room in the load area.

Do you need four-wheel drive? If you’re going off-road or towing then it’s a useful system, and some models have extra features to improve performance, such as a low-ratio gearbox. If you don’t need it, a rear-wheel-drive model could be more affordable and easier on fuel, although they can be hard to find.

Look also at the trim levels available. If you’ll mostly be using your truck for work then a simple, utilitarian interior may be preferable and more affordable, but for family life a higher-spec model with more niceties could be in order.
