Mazda reveals new EZ-60

Written By Phill Tromans

This is Mazda's new mid-size electric car. It's called the EZ-60 in its native China, but when it makes its way to the UK, it'll likely be called the CX-6e.

Essentially an electric alternative to the Mazda CX-60, the EZ-60 shares its underpinnings with a Chinese-brand car called the Changan Deepal S07, which itself is due to reach UK shores later this year. It'll be a rival for cars like the Tesla Model Y, the Ford Capri and the Audi Q4 E-tron.

The Chinese connection is because the car was primarily designed for the Chinese market, but Mazda has decided to bring it to Europe, too. Highlights on the new EZ-60 include stylish, recognisably-Mazda looks, and some aero features that include various vents on the bodywork to improve aerodynamics.

We'll see the car in full at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, and we should hear more about UK details, including price and the expected name change, soon after that.

There's no official information about when the EZ-60 will arrive on UK shores, but some time in 2026 seems likely. Price-wise, a starting cost of around £45,000 would be our best guess for now, as that would keep it competitive with its rivals.

We've only seen the exterior of the EZ-60 so far, but it shows typical contemporary modern Mazda styling on a sleek, coupe-SUV-style body. The influence of the forthcoming Mazda6e is noticeable too, and there are some eyecatching aerodynamic features including cameras replacing side mirrors, and vents in the bonnet and the C-pillars.

We'll see and learn more when the car is revealed fully later in April.

Mazda hasn't said what will lurk under the EZ-60's bodywork, but judging by what's powering the S07, we're expecting a rear-mounted electric motor with 217PS and an 80kWh battery and a range of nearly 300 miles.
