The Nissan Qashqai is considered the original SUV, kicking off the trend for affordable, raised-up family cars
It sits in the middle of Nissan’s SUV range, between the Nissan Juke and the Nissan X-Trail. It’s one of the most popular cars in Britain whether you’re buying new or used, with competitors including the Ford Kuga, Peugeot 3008 and Toyota RAV4.
The latest model is currently available with a pair of petrol engines and a special type of hybrid, called e-Power. This uses the petrol engine as a generator to power a big electric motor, rather than it powering the wheels. The regular petrol engines also use mild-hybrid technology to make them more fuel efficient.
SUVs like the Nissan Qashqai are hot property whether your buying or leasing a new or used model. There’s plenty of choice out there, and some good deals to be found. Take a look at a Nissan Qashqai for sale on heycar to discover just what’s on offer.
The Nissan Qashqai is one of the best family SUVs you can buy. Not only is it one of the most affordable choices for practical family transport, it’s also packed full of useful touches to make the drudgery of school runs or commutes a bit more pleasant.
On the used market, diesel Nissan Qashqais are still very common, offering a great blend of performance and fuel economy. But today’s 1.3 DiG-T petrol models are almost as efficient, thanks to mild-hybrid technology, and a lot more refined. If ultimate miles-per-gallon is what matters, the Qashqai e-Power hybrid is the model of choice.
With a smooth and comfortable driving experience, a well-equipped interior and plenty of space, you can’t really go wrong by buying or leasing a Nissan Qashqai.
Overall the Nissan Qashqai offers plenty to appeal, whether you’re buying it as a family car to load up with children and luggage, as a comfortable commuter car or as an affordable second car.
Used Nissan Qashqais offer excellent value, because the sheer number of them on sale has kept prices low. If you can afford to buy new, however, you’ll get one with the very latest technology, more comfort and space than ever before and a composed driving experience.
We reckon the e-Power hybrid model, added in 2022, is the best offering for the Nissan Qashqai. It gives you more performance than either of the pure petrol models, yet it's just as smooth (and even smooth around town) and more efficient too.
If you simply can't stomach the extra cost of the hybrid, though, we'd recommend the 158PS mild-hybrid with the automatic gearbox. In terms of trim level, avoid basic Visia models, but resist the urge to pay top-whack for a high-spec Tekna or Tekna+ model. The N-Connecta provides a good compromise, while you might find a good deal on a Premiere Edition model.
A Nissan Qashqai not for you? We've got 1000s of used cars for sale to suit all budgets and needs.
Those looking at the last-generation Nissan Qashqai will find more engine choice, with 1.2, 1.3 and 1.6-litre DiG-T turbo petrol engines. There’s also 1.5 and 1.6-litre dCi diesel engines.

As the Nissan Qashqai's 1.3-litre engine features mild-hybrid tech, it's classed as an 'alternative fuel vehicle' so you'll save £10 a year in road tax, making your annual bill (after the first year) £170. The Nissan Qashqai e-Power is the same.
The Nissan Qashqai falls into insurance group 11 in entry level Visia 1.3 DiG-T 140 form. Acenta Premium models range from group 12 to 17, while top-spec Tekna+ models are insurance group 16-19.
