The SsangYong Musso is a pick-up truck that undercuts the competition on price while still offering some attractive features and overall performance. This four door, double-cab truck comes with manual or auto transmission options and a diesel engine, keeping things relatively simple. This less-is-more idea is what makes the Musso really attractive and helps it to work well within its price bracket.
Coming with six airbags, autonomous braking, blind spot detection and rear-cross traffic alerts this is a really safe vehicle even before you take its sheer size into consideration. There have been older versions but these came in different forms, and launched in certain countries, so don't get confused if other models appear in your search, it's the 2018 and onwards one you'll want to look out for.
Key rivals for the SsangYong Musso include the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max.
The SsangYong Musso is a good pick-up truck option for haulage but also for other daily uses thanks to that twin-cab setup that can seat up to five people. If you're coming from a comfortable SUV or a car, to this, then the setup might seem minimal, but if you're trading in another pick-up you could be impressed with the levels of comfort in this vehicle - it's pretty well equipped.
This type of vehicle can not only carry around 1,000 KG of cargo plus passengers, but it can also be written off against benefit-in-kind rates in the UK. For this reason you may find these are very affordable as used vehicles since business owners buy new and upgrade regularly, filling the market with still great condition but lower priced options.
There are two types of Musso out there of varying lengths from 5095mm to 5405mm and each able to carry slightly different loads of 1105 Kg and 1205 KG respectively. Plus it can tow a massive 3500 KG worth of trailer weight even with a full load onboard which puts most of the competition to shame.
Inside you'll find plenty of soft-touch plastics, excellent rear-view visibility which is genuinely useful in this class of vehicle, and DAB radio, plus optional Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity onboard.
The SsangYong Musso offers 17-inch wheels, air conditioning and auto lights and wipers even on the most basic of trims. In all cases the suspension is stiffer to suit heavy loads to expect to feel the roads, but also to not have to worry about lean in corners, even with heavy loads onboard.

The SsangYong Musso is well kitted at all trim levels for this class of vehicle but with four levels there are some great variations to suit most needs.
The base level EX trim offers 17-inch alloys, DAB, Bluetooth, electric windows, air conditioning, full-sized spare wheel, alarm and immobiliser, automatic lights and wipers.
Move up to the Rebel trim and you get larger 18-inch alloys, roof rails, floor mats, an 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, artificial leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated leather steering wheel, black and silver side steps, Rebel graphics, reversing camera (from mid-2020) and LED front fog lights.
Next level up is the Saracen which offers 18-inch alloys, black front grille, Nappa leather seats, electrically adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, 9.2-inch infotainment with TomTom, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, LED daytime running lights, dark tinted rear privacy glass, cruise control, Saracen graphics, front and rear parking sensors (from mid-2020), rear cross traffic alerts, rear-view camera and blind spot detection.
The top level Saracen+ is for the long wheel base model only and gets you all the above but with longer loading bay and higher payload capacity plus Saracen+ graphics.

The SsangYong Musso Saracen has a first year road tax of £320 and it should then be a flat rate of £290 per year to tax this pick-up.
The SsangYong Musso sits in insurance group 50, which is the highest one so expect that cost to be high on this vehicle. Since this is used as a work vehicle that is taken into account so expect to pay a higher rate than you might on a softer SUV, for example.
