Volkswagen drawn back the covers on a new concept car that forms the basis of its new sub-£17,000 electric city car.
The ID. EVERY1 is an all-electric city car, sized betweem the VW Up and the current Polo, promising space for four, a 305-litre boot, and a range of around 155 miles on a full battery.
The production version is due for release in 2027, and while it's not officially been named by VW, it'll almost definitely wear the ID.1 badge. Volkswagen says it'll cost from around 20,000 euros, or around £16,600. It'll be a rival for cars like the Dacia Spring and the Citroen e-C3.
New 2027 Volkswagen ID.1: price and release date
Volkswagen says the ID.1 will arrive in 2027. No firm UK price has been announced yet, but VW says it'll start at less than 20,000 euros in Europe, which is around £13,600.

New 2027 Volkswagen ID.1: exterior and interior
Although the ID. EVERY1 is a concept car, it's not a million miles from production-spec. It measures 3380mm in length and boasts Volskwagen's new design language, which the company says emphasises "stability, likeability, and a secret sauce". Make of that what you will... It's designed to be timeless and classless in its vibe.
No pictures of the interior have been released yet – only sketches – but VW says it'll have as much interior space as the larger Polo, seating four and with a 305-litre boot. Warm colours and lounge-like seating are promised, with a central touchscreen infotainment display and physical buttons for temperature control, seat heating and audio volume. The passenger side of the dash panel on the concept car is variable and can hold a shelf or a tablet. The driver sits behind a two-spoke steering wheel, and there's a movable centre console that can slide to the back of the car, with adjustable shelves.
The rear seats and front passenger seat can be folded down for larger cargo loads. VW says it'll incorporate recycled materials into the interior.

New 2027 Volkswagen ID.1: range, motors and batteries
The ID. EVERY1 is powered by a 90PS electric motor at the front wheels, and promises a range of at least 155 miles on a full battery charge. We can assume the production ID.1 will offer something similar. Its top speed is around 81mph.
