Used Citroen C4 Picasso for sale: everything you need to know

The Citroen C4 Picasso is a practical and very versatile MPV, which makes perfect sense if you’ve got a family and things to move from one place to another on a regular basis.

As you’d expect from this innovative French brand, the design of the Citroen C4 Picasso are a little different to rival MPVs out there, which certainly makes it stand out from the crowd.

The quirky exterior design thinking extends to the interior too, with an excellent cockpit layout that has been designed specifically for moving families in reasonable comfort.

One of the biggest plus points of the Citroen C4 Picasso is its light and airy feel on the inside, with lots of glass helping to keep things bright and cheery. In fact, it’s a much more pleasing prospect than sitting inside close rival the Ford C-Max.

Meanwhile, the Citroen C4 Picasso provides owners with a pleasing drive too, with the pair of petrol engines and diesel options providing enough power to get the job done, while also providing decent fuel economy. Overall, the Citroen C4 Picasso is a great value MPV and there are plenty out there to choose from.

If you’re looking for an affordable used buy, there’s a huge amount of choice. Take a look at a Citroen C4 Picasso for sale on heycar to discover just what’s on offer.

Should you buy a Citroen C4 Picasso?

The Citroen C4 Picasso is a great car to buy if you’re keen to own a practical people mover, as this is an MPV with all of the assets needed for getting from A to B.

It’s a decent size without having the bulk of larger SUVs, while the design and overall look means it also stands out from the crowd. It might only have five seats, but the interior is nicely laid out and makes it ideally suited to the average-sized family.

The other bonus is the large boot, which is similarly useful for families and all of the stuff that comes with having one. While some may prefer the more conventional look of the like-minded Volkswagen Touran or the dependability of the Toyota Verso, the Citroen C4 Picasso has plenty going for it.

A decent range of engine options allow you to match it to your needs, with the diesel route being an obvious one if high volume motorway miles are on the cards. Equally, the 1.2-litre petrol, augmented with an easy-to-use automatic box is a prime option for around town motoring and frequent short hops.

What’s the best used Citroen C4 Picasso model to buy?

There are two petrol engines in the range starting with the 1.6 VTi along with the 1.6 THP with 155PS. The latter is supposedly the 'sporty' choice but while it's smooth and nippy from a standstill, it lacks in-gear pull so you're better off with a diesel.

The 1.6 HDi engine is available in two versions, one with 90PS and the other with 115PS. It's a great engine with plenty of torque - 270Nm in the higher powered version - yet it still refined and quiet. Economy looks good too with a claimed 70.1mpg.

The rather clunky manual gearbox is a bit of a letdown but it's at least fairly positive. Citroen is also offering ETG6 - a development of the much maligned EGC automated manual gearbox, which is certainly an improvement, but the manual is still the better choice unless you have to have an auto.

Used Citroen C4 Picasso fuel economy and performance

  • Citroen C4 Picasso 1.2L Puretech petrol: This is a surprisingly beefy little engine that is ideally suited to the car, with a 0-62mph time of 10.1 seconds and up to 55mpg possible.
  • Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6L diesel: The diesel starts to make more sense if you’re doing lots of miles, with a slower 0-62mph time of just over 11 seconds at best. The upside is economy of up to 74mpg.
  • Citroen C4 Picasso 2.0L diesel: The top engine in the range in terms of size and probably unnecessary if you’re using the car for everyday family duties. It’ll get from 0-62mph in just over 10 seconds depending on the model and economy averages in the mid-60s.

What used Citroen C4 Picasso trim levels are available?

The Citroen C4 Picasso has been around for a few years and has been through several iterations in that time. The later models come with more bells and whistles, plus an extra feeling of refinement, which was somewhat lacking on earlier examples.

  • The Citroen C4 Picasso Touch is the base level edition of the MPV, with a trim naming convention that replaced the earlier VTR model. Nevertheless, it’s quite nicely appointed with the likes of alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, a panoramic windscreen and cruise control. It also featured air-conditioning inside, along with a seven-inch screen to control ventilation and other key functions, plus a digital dash display.
  • The Citroen C4 Picasso Feel features a revised naming convention following a 2016 trim overhaul like the model above.
  • The Citroen C4 Picasso Flair is the top of the range model, which also follows on from the earlier Citroen C4 Picasso Exclusive+. Lookout for the likes of adaptive cruise control with collision alert, blind spot monitoring, 18-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof.

Used Citroen C4 Picasso dimensions and boot size

The Citroen C4 Picasso’s dimensions are:

  • Length: 4438mm
  • Width: 2117mm
  • Height: 1610mm
  • Ground clearance: 160mm

The Citroen C4 Picasso’s boot size is:

  • 537-litres

Used Citroen C4 Picasso road tax

Citroen C4 Picasso models vary in road tax depending on the model and year it was manufactured, but expect to pay between £180 minimum and £365.

How much is it to insure a Citroen C4 Picasso?

The Citroen C4 Picasso is a sensible family car, or people mover, which means it shouldn’t be too outlandish when it comes to insurance. Depending on the model, it falls between group 14 and group 25.
