Jaguar axes all but one of its cars

Jaguar has decided to axe all its models apart from the sporty F-Pace SUV as it moves towards a new era making only electric vehicles.

Having already dropped the XE, the XF and the F-Type from its line-up earlier this year, the British manufacturer has now said it will stop making the I-Pace and E-Pace, leaving the firm with just the F-Pace in its portfolio... for now.

A new generation of fully electric Jaguar's is in the works, with the first one expected next year.

Why has Jaguar stopped making most of its cars?

Sales of non-F-Pace cars have dwindled in recent years, to the point where the F-Pace outsold all the other Jaguar cars combined.

According to Automotive News Europe, Adrian Mardell, the boss of Jaguar’s parent company JLR, told investors that none of the now-dropped vehicles made money, and so would be replaced with all-new cars.

The F-Pace is old in automotive terms, having been first released in 2016.

When will we see new Jaguar cars?

While no firm details have been officially announced, Jaguar’s substantial investment in its electric reinvention – some £2.25 billion – will be reflected in a new electric GT car to be released next year, likely a rival to the Porsche Taycan. We may well get our first glimpse of the as-yet-unnamed new Jag before the end of 2024.

The new car will be pricey, at north of £100,000, and use a dual-motor setup to combine serious horsepower with an impressive 400-mile-plus battery range. Design boss Gerry McGovern has said it’ll reflect Jaguar’s heritage, particularly cars like the E-Type and XJS.

Two more models are expected to follow the new GT car in 2026 and 2027, including at least one SUV.

All the new cars will have brand new mechanically underpinnings designed specifically for electric vehicles.
