The Mazda6 has gone electric – meet the Mazda6e.

A stalwart of the UK saloon and hatchback market for many years, the Mazda6 has previously only been available with internal combustion power, but next year will see the introduction of the Mazda6e.

Described by Mazda as a hatchback with a fastback saloon style, it promises to be a smart-looking alternative to cars like the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3. It also promises a range of up to 345 miles on a full battery, and with 259PS from its electric motor, it should have decent performance, too.

The Mazda6e is a European version of a car already sold in China, called the Mazda EZ-6.

New 2026 Mazda6e: price and release date

No prices have yet been announced for the Mazda6e, but it's due to arrive in the UK in 2026.

The new Mazda63 is shaped like a saloon, but has a hatchback boot.

New 2026 Mazda6e: exterior and interior

Mazda has long made attractive cars and the new 6e continues the focus on stylish looks, with smooth, sweeping lines, a low roof and a sporty look. It's a shade under five metres long, at 4921mm in length and 1890mm wide.

Inside, a high centre console, a large infotainment screen and a sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel give the car a premium look, but one that's designed around the driver; like all Mazdas, the 6e will be designed for driving enjoyment.

An illuminated grille, 19-inch alloy wheels and a rear full-width light bar make sure that the design is suitably embellished, and there's an electronically adjustable rear wing, too. A panoramic roof should keep the interior light and airy. The boot isn't huge, at 330 litres, but there's a 70-litre front compartment too.

The interior gets a high centre console, a panoramic sunroof as standard, and a large infotainment screen.

New 2026 Mazda6e: motors and batteries

There will be a choice of two batteries in the Mazda6e. The entry-level is a 68.8kWh unit that promises a range of up to 298 miles on a full charge, while the larger 80kWh battery should give a theoretical range of up to 343 miles.

The smaller battery is paired with a 259PS electric motor, which gives a 0-62mph time of 7.6 seconds, while the larger battery has a 245PS motor for a 7.8-second 0-62mph time. Both versions are rear-wheel drive.
