To date, Renault's sporty sub-brand Alpine has produced only one car, but that's soon going to change.
Heralding a third production model is this, the Alpine A390_β show car, which aside from a few fancy touches shows us what a future electric coupe SUV from Alpine will look like. It'll be the third and largest car in the future Alpine line-up, above the next all-electric A110 and the A290.
Other than the fastback design, little has been officially revealed about what will be called simply the A390 when it goes on sale. (The _β, by the way, signifies the car's beta stage of development.) The engineering focus is on creating a car notable for its handling, and it should be one of the most fun-to-drive electric cars around.
The production Alpine A390 will be a rival for cars like the BMW iX2, the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback and, dynamically, the Porsche Macan.
New 2025 Alpine A390: price and release date
Alpine has confirmed that production will start on the A390 in 2025. Prices haven't been confirmed yet, but don't expect it to be cheap – numbers will be relatively low and the price high to keep it exclusive.
New 2025 Alpine A390: exterior and interior
We know very little about what the interior of the production A390 will be like because the show car has a jazzy cabin that won't make it to production. The hardcore 3D-printed bucket seats and transforming steering wheel, which widens and narrows according to preference, aren't realistic for a production car. We do know that there will be rear seats, however.
The look of the outside seems more realistic, however. Alpine says 85% of the exterior design is true to the production model, so the fastback shape looks likely to remain. Alpine says it's inspired by a drop of water, and we may see something resembling the interesting headlights make it to production, too, along with the thin light bars at the back.
New 2025 Alpine A390: motors and batteries
No details of power for the Alpine A390 have yet been announced, other than it will have three electric motors – one at the front and two at the back. Alpine is developing a non-permanent all-wheel-drive system that will allow balance to be switched between the different axles and torque to be sent to individual wheels, all in the name of enhganced grip and handling.
We expect it to have considerable power and exhilirating performance.
