Hyundai has given the Ioniq 5 an overhaul to keep it fresh against its competition, with a new entry level model that drops the starting price of the popular family hatchback.
As well as tweaked looks on the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, it also gets two upgraded batteries and a new Advance trim level at a lower price than before, as well as a sporty N Line and N Line S trims. Existing Ioniq 5 owners may be relieved to hear that it also gets a rear wiper – something the original car lacked.
Hyundai hopes the changes for 2024 will keep up the Ioniq 5’s appeal against cars like the Kia EV6, the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4.
New 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5: prices and release date
The revised Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available to order right now. Prices start at £39,900 for the new Advance trim with the 63kWh standard-range battery. Opting for the 84kWh long-range battery, which also has a more powerful motor, will cost £43,400.
The Premium trim models are £42,400 or £45,400 depending on battery. All other trims are available only with the long-range battery, but with either rear-wheel drive or the more powerful all-wheel-drive setup. N Line trims cost £47,400 or £50,900, while Ultimate costs £49,400 or £52,900. The top-spec N Line S model costs from £52,400 up to £55,900.
New 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5: exterior and interior
Tweaks to the Hyundai Ioniq 5’s distinctive looks are relatively minor, but you’ll find new 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheel designs, revised bumpers and, of course, the rear wiper. There are new optional side cameras in place of mirrors and a couple of new paint colours – Meta Blue Pearl and Ultimate Red – taking the total hues available to 11.
Battery heating and pre-conditioning systems are now standard across the range, as are heat pumps.
Inside, there’s a new sliding centre console, revised armrest and seat designs and new upholstery. The infotainment screen and digital driver displays now have a dark surround. Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto are included on all models.
New 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5: range and performance
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets upgrades to both its standard-range and long-range batteries – the former moves from 58kWh to 63kWh, while the latter goes from 73kWh to 84kWh. That gives the standard-range car an official range of up to 273 miles on a full charge, and up to 354 miles for the long-range model.
There are three power options depending on what version of the Ioniq 5 you go for. The standard-range cars all get 170PS and 350Nm from their electric motor, which gives a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds.
Long-range cars come with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Rear-wheel-drive cars make 228PS and 350Nm, giving them a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds. All-wheel-drive cars, meanwhile, make 325PS and 605Nm, dropping the 0-62mph time considerably to 5.3 seconds.
Charging from a 350kW CCS wallbox (if you can find one) takes as little as 18 minutes from 10% to 100%. Use a 50kW charger and that will take 58 minutes on a standard-range car or 1hr 16m on a long-range model.
New 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5: trim levels
The arrival of the new Advance trim is the big news for the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5. This is the entry-level trim, available in standard-range and long-range forms. It rides on 19-inch wheels and comes with electric folding (and heated) side mirrors, heated front seats with cloth upholstery and a rear-view camera, as well as dual-zone climate control and a keyless entry and start system.
The Premium model adds extra safety features such as a blind-spot warning system, an electric boot lid, a wireless phone charger and upgraded LED headlights, as well as ambient interior lighting, a sliding centre console and electrically adjusted front seats with half-leather upholstery.
The N Line trim is also new for 2024, taking inspiration from the performance Ioniq 5 N model. It has a sportier look with 20-inch wheels, auto-flush door handles that retreat into the bodywork, a more aggressive set of bumpers and lots of red accents inside.
The Ultimate trim level (not actually the top-spec model, but more on that in a moment) adds features including a head-up display, BOSE sound system, solar glass windows that keep out the heat, ventilated front seats with leather upholstery and heated outer rear seats.
The actual top-spec trim is the N Line S, which combines the sporty looks of the N Line with the extra features of the Ultimate, and also bundles in the otherwise optional Tech Pack. This gives you remote smart park assist that lets you manoeuvre the car into tight spaces from outside the car, as well as a more advanced external camera system.
