New 2024 Cupra Born VZ: price, specs and release date 

Cupra has added some extra spice to its Born hatchback with the release of a new performance model – the 2024 Cupra Born VZ.

An all-electric hatchback with a sporty vibe, the Cupra Born has been with us since 2022, but the Born VZ ups the power and, Cupra says, the fun. While the standard Born was available with 204PS or 231PS, the Born VZ comes with 326PS, which makes for a much zippier driving experience.

There aren’t many electric hot hatches on the market, but potential Born VZ customers might also be looking at the cheaper Abarth 500e or the pricier Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. The Cupra Born VZ sits right between the two.

The 2024 Cupra Born VZ is available to order now, priced at £44,625.

The changes to the Cupra Born VZ over the standard car include 20-inch alloy wheels (named “Thunderstorm”) and the option of Dark Forest green paint.

Inside, there are bucket seats as standard and a Sennheiser sound system, as well as keyless entry and a wireless phone charger. But it’s largely the same as the standard car – the upgrades are in the driving capabilities.

To move the Born from standard to VZ spec, Cupra has upped the power to 326PS with 545Nm of torque, coupled with an upgraded chassis with sports suspension and dynamic dampers. The 0-62mph sprint takes 5.6 seconds and the top speed is up to 124mph.

Despite the extra power, range is still very decent. An improved 79kWh battery pack upgrades the standard car’s 77kWh unit and promises a range of up to 372 miles on a single charge. Cupra says it’ll charge from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes using a 18kW DC fast-charger.
