Volkswagen ID.7 Review 2024: front dynamic

The new Volkswagen ID.7 is now available for a more affordable price tag thanks to the introduction of a new added-value Match trim line.

The new Volkswagen ID.7 Pro Match costs £51,550. This is significantly cheaper than the new Volkswagen ID.7 Pro Launch Edition version that introduced the electric car to the UK earlier in January 2024.

The new Volkswagen ID.7 Pro Match includes standard metallic paint too, along with an exterior styling pack.

The arrival of the Match trim has been timed to coincide with the arrival of the new Volkswagen ID.7 in UK showrooms.

What other new Volkswagen Match models are there?

The Match trim has long appeared in the Volkswagen range. In VW-speak, it indicates a model that has an improved specification and offers better value for money than other versions.

Now, the Match trim is returning to the Volkswagen range – and is available across 10 models.

The Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen T-Cross, Volkswagen Taigo, Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Touran are now all available in Match trim.

The firm says it adds “significant levels” of equipment compared to the Life (or, for Touran, SE Family) trim it’s based on.

There are also Match trims for the Volkswagen ID.3, Volkswagen ID.4 and Volkswagen ID.5 electric cars – the first time Match has come to an VW EV. These Match versions have notably lower on-the-road prices.

“We have a rich heritage with Match trims,” said Volkswagen UK director Rod McLeod, “which have always represented great value for money from our customers.

“Launching them now across 10 models in a variety of segments – including electric – gives people lots of choice and will hopefully help us to build on our success as the UK’s best-selling new car brand.”

How much can you save with a Volkswagen Match trim?

The Volkswagen Match trim sits above Life, and costs from £175 to £705 more than the Life trim.

However, extra equipment more than offsets this. As standard, Volkswagen Match models have larger alloy wheels, tinted windows, rear-view camera, keyless entry and the aforementioned metallic paint.

For Volkswagen electric cars, the Match models are considerably cheaper – they’re reduced by around £4300.

They too include extra features, such as metallic paint, electric tailgate, along with an exterior pack and assistance pack.

Volkswagen ID.3 prices now start from £35,700 and Volkswagen ID.4 prices start from £42,640.

For regular petrol and diesel Volkswagens, the Match trim sits above entry-level Life. For  Volkswagen electric cars, the firm has fully revised its range to incorporate the Match as a better-value proposition.

Petrol and diesel Volkswagen Match cost a few hundred pounds more than the regular Life model, but have thousands of pounds’ worth of extra equipment. Volkswagen Match EV models cost up to £4300 less than previous versions.

All Volkswagen Match models have standard metallic paint, plus styling features such as larger alloy wheels and tinted rear glass. Many have extra interior features too, such as keyless entry or a reversing camera.
