If you buy a brand new car, chances are that you'll want it to run trouble-free for at least half a decade. However, even with brand new cars, there are no guarantees. Unless, that is, you get a car with a five-year warranty.

Okay, so that doesn't guarantee that you won't encounter trouble, but it does guarantee that if such trouble occurs within a five-year period, you won't be landed with the cost of repairing the problem. Lots of car manufacturers have offered long five-year warranties over the years, including Renault, Subaru, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo to name a few, but in more recent years, these firms have reverted back to more conventional three-year arrangements. However, a few manufacturers still offer the peace-of-mind of five-year warranty cover, and these include Hyundai, Genesis, GWM Ora, Isuzu and KGM (the car brand formerly known as Ssangyong).

This list features some great cars that come as standard with a five-year warranty. You'll find a wide variety of models, covering everything from tiny city cars to massive seven-seat off-roaders, glamorous executive estates to hardy pick-up trucks, and electric family cars to scintillating hot hatches. Keep reading for our guide to the best cars with a five-year warranty.

1. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Year launched: 2021

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review: front static
9/10

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is not only one of the best cars with a five-year warranty, but we reckon it's one of the best electric cars out there. This battery-powered hatchback manages to look retro and modren at the same time, making it achingly stylish, and it's just as appealing inside, with cool design, impressive quality and lots of toys. It's a surprisingly practical choice, too, with masses of passenger space and a big boot.

To drive, it's not as sharp in the corners as its Kia EV6 sister car, but it does a great job on comfort, staying settled and composed on even the roughest of road surfaces. The light controls and instant acceleration makes it an easy and relaxing car to drive, too, and the trademark electric-car refinement also helps on that score. What's more, the loftiest versions will do 350 miles on a charge, and they'll take on charge quicker than most, too.

2. Genesis GV60

Year launched: 2022

Genesis GV60 Review 2024
9/10

It's probably of very little surprise that the Genesis GV60 sits alongside the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in this list, because along with the Kia EV6, the cars share their platform, technology and many of their mechanical bits. Don't go thinking that the three are simply rehashed versions of each other, though: each has its own distinct character, and the GV60 is definitely intended as the premium offering of the three, with plusher cabin materials, flamboyant design, and lots of cutting-edge kit.

Bearing in mind their commonalities, it's no surprise tha the Genesis is just as impressive as its sister cars in terms of its range, its charging speed and its dynamic polish. Where it surpasses its sister cars, though, is on the customer service you get. Yes, you get a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, just like on the Hyundai, but you also get five years of breakdown cover and five years of servicing thrown in, too. In fact, the very second you enquire about a Genesis, you're assigned your own Genesis personal assistant who will bring a demonstrator model to your home for you to test drive, guide you through the configuration process, provide regular updates on the build of your car, and collect your car from you when servicing time comes around, leaving you with a courtesy car. This really is the full package when it comes to customer care.

3. GWM Ora 03

Year launched: 2022

GWM ORA Funky Cat Review 2023: front dynamic
7/10

There's a smattering of confusion where this car is concerned. When it was first released by GWM Ora in 2022 (GWM stands for Great Wall Motors, the same crew from China who sold the Great Wall Steed pickup truck in the UK a few years back), it had a fantastically ridiculous name: the Funky Cat. However, it wasn't long before the company decided that a name change was required, and it was rebranded as the 03, a name that couldn't be duller if it tried.

Whatever you call it, though, it remains an extremely likeable little electric hatchback. It has funky, unconventional styling inside and out, it's well built from pleasant-feeling materials, and there are some fairly garish colour schemes on offer that inject even more character. It packs plenty of equipment and technology, and by electric car standards, it's also pretty affordable to buy. Granted, the boot is rather small, but there's plenty of passenger space and the car is pleasant to drive. All that, and you also get a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, hence its place on this list.

4. Isuzu D-Max

Year launched: 2021

Isuzu D-Max Review 2023: water splash
8/10

We've aimed to bring you a broad spread of vehicle types on this list so that there's something for everyone, and we've even managed to find you a pickup truck with a five-year warranty. The Isuzu D-Max may not be the poshest or most desirable vehicle of its type, with a slightly workmanlike interior and a rather knobbly and unsophisticated ride (although it's much better in both areas than it used to be). However, it's ruthlessly efficient at doing the job its designed to do, being effortlessly practical, incredibly hard-wearing, and capable of some seriously feats off-road. It's the ultimate workhorse.

Unlike many of the vehicles on this list, Isuzu's five-year warranty is limited to 'just' 125,000 miles, but that's better than Kia and Toyota give you on their seven- and ten-year warranties, respectively, so it should be plenty to be getting on with.

5. KGM/Ssangyong Rexton

Year launched: 2017

SsangYong Rexton Review 2023: Side Front View
6/10

As observed earlier in this list, there's a bit more naming confusion involved with this car, but in a different way than before. This huge seven-seat SUV has always been called the Rexton, so there's no confusion there, but the company that builds and sells it has experienced something of an identity crisis of late. The company was called Ssangyong for many years, but as of 2024 when a corporate buyout took place, the Korean firm has rebranded itself as KGM.

Regardless, the appeal of the Rexton remains exactly the same. It's a car that provides you with a massive amount of metal for a relatively affordable price. You get seven seats surrounded by lots of space, an interior that you might find to be surprisingly high in quality, and lots of standard equipment for the money. It's decent to drive on the road, too, while also being very capable off it. Ssangyong's warranty used to be even better at seven years/150,000 miles, but even though that's reduced significantly, the five years/100,000 that remains is still pretty good.

6. Hyundai i10

Year launched: 2020

Hyundai i10 2020 frontleft exterior
9/10

The Hyundai i10 is a wonderful city car. The newest generation offers more space than most little runabouts, fitting in five adults if you're happy squeeze in. There's a very decent boot that's among the best-in-class for capacity, too. In fact, the i10 straddles the gap between a city car and a small hatch in terms of size.

But what really makes the i10 stand apart from the competition is its blend of ride and handling: it's the most comfortable city car around, and its easy and enjoyable to run around as well. Hyundai doesn’t do ‘cheap and cheerful’ any longer, so the i10 isn't really a budget option, but it still stays true to its ethos of offering excellent value for money.

You get a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty with all Hyundai models, plus a 12-year anti-perforation warranty also comes as standard on all new Hyundai cars.

7. Genesis GV80

Year launched: 2021

Genesis GV80 21 plate UK
8/10

If you want your next car to have a five-year warranty, then why not have it on a huge premium SUV that's positively dripping with luxury, and bears more than a passing resemblance to a Bentley Bentayga (only with 24 months of extra cover)? Step forward the Genesis GV80.

The GV80 is not an SUV that shrinks around you: when you're sat behind the wheel, it feels like a tank that can steamroller anything in front of it, only you swap the turret for real leather and wood, plus many, many gadgets. You also get masses of passenger space, and a boot so big that you could go missing in it.

It's a substantial machine, then, so thankfully you can have a creamy six-cylinder diesel engine that rarely feels flustered, and it even returns plus-30mpg. While the GV80 feels big, it isn't clumsy in corners: its steering is surprisingly quick and direct and well contained body movement means it goes where you point it. Maybe it's a little too sporty because bumps aren't always soaked up as well as you'd have hoped.

8. Hyundai i30N

Year launched: 2018

Hyundai i30N Review 2024: front dynamic
8/10

If you're thinking that no manufacturer would be mad enough to apply their generous five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty to a highly strung, high performance sports car, then you obviously aren't familiar with the good folks at Hyundai. The Korean firm bestows the excellent Hyundai i30N with exactly the same guarantees as it does on the rest of its range of hatchbacks and SUVs. That makes it a car that satisfies the head as well as it does the heart.

And make no mistake, the i30N is a proper performance weapon. Adaptive suspension, limited slip differential, automatic rev-matching, launch control, an overboost function, high performance tyres, a variable exhaust valve, and a barnstorming 280PS turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine: it all combines to make the i30N enormously fast, not to mention enormously enjoyable. All of that, and you can fit a family of four and a weekly shop inside the solidly built and well equipped cabin. What's not to like?

9. Genesis G70 Shooting Brake

Year launched: 2022

7/10

Our list of great cars with five-year warranties has so far featured small hatchbacks, SUVs, pick-up trucks and sporty hot hatches, so how about throwing a nice executive estate car into the mix? Well, that's precisely what we've done with this, the Genesis GV70 Shooting Brake

This sharp-suited prestige estate car looks way more glamorous than any of its rather conservatively styled rivals, such as the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class. Okay, so it's not quite as practical as those rivals (which, admittedly, is quite a large problem when that's the whole point of an estate car), and neither is it as high in quality or as polished to drive. However, it's good enough in all those areas to convince, and you also get a far better warranty, along with all the other customer service perks that Genesis ownership brings.

10. Hyundai Santa Fe

Year launched: 2024

Hyundai Santa Fe Review 2024: front dynamic
8/10

We round off our list with the newest car here, the latest Hyundai Santa Fe landing on the UK market in late 2024. It's arguably also one of the most well-rounded and versatile cars on our list, with a massive boot and seven spacious seats that fold down in a variety of clever ways, and there's even an optional inflatable mattress that fits over the folded seats to turn the car into a camping pod for overnight adventures.

Not everyone will be blown away by the car's styling, perhaps, but this is a car that certainly stands out and gets you noticed. It's not a cheap car, either, but that's mostly justified by impressive quality and lots of technology and standard equipment. It's a comfortable and civilised car on the road, and hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains are available.

Best 5-Year Warranty FAQs

Written By Ivan Aistrop

The main warranty covers the car against any manufacturing defects that could cause trouble. But cars also come with multiple other warranties, usually covering things like bodywork, corrosion and mechanical parts for separate amounts of time as well. Hybrids and electric vehicles will also get a battery warranty. Warranties typically have a limited mileage, too. So as well as the length of the warranty, make sure you read the small print.

A few manufacturers offer the peace-of-mind of five-year warranty cover, and these include Hyundai, Genesis, GWM Ora, Isuzu and KGM (the car brand formerly known as Ssangyong).

That depends on your mileage. Toyota and Lexus offer a warranty that could last up to ten years if you keep your car serviced according to schedule at an authorised dealer, but this cover is limited to a maximum of 100,000 miles. So, if you do huge annual mileages, you might actually be better off with Hyundai's five-year arrangement, as that has no mileage limit whatsoever.
