New 2023 Peugeot e-208

The Peugeot e-208 pure electric supermini is set to get a significant improvement in range and performance for 2023.

The Peugeot e-208 is to be updated with the electric drivetrain from the all-new Peugeot e-308. This will give it a driving range of almost 250 miles and a big boost in power too – ideal for keeping it competitive alongside rivals such as the Renault Zoe, Vauxhall Corsa-e and MINI Electric.

The new Peugeot e-208 updates have been revealed ahead of its market launch in 2023. Peugeot is eager to attract buyers who may be keen to place an order to buy or lease one of the first new models that reach showrooms.

Current Peugeot e-208 prices start from £30,195. The new car will see a small increase, due to the detail improvements, but it will not be too far removed from the current car, in order to keep it competitive alongside its rivals.

New Peugeot e-208: exterior and interior

The pretty new 2023 Peugeot e-208 is unchanged from today’s car. The shape is still fresh and appealing, having been launched in 2019. It still stands out as a chic and stylish choice in a sector that includes the Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo.

There are a couple of tiny detail tweaks that mark out the Peugeot e-208 from the regular Peugeot 208. Pure electric e-208 feature a body-colour chequer-pattern front grille, and a blue ‘e’ logo on the C-pillar, a feature that harks back to the legendary Peugeot 205. Low rolling resistance tyres are fitted, too.

The new Peugeot e-208’s charge point is hidden behind a flap on the left-hand side, in the same location as the petrol-powered 208’s fuel filler. Meanwhile, at the rear, there’s another blue ‘e’ badge ahead of the 208 logo – they’re all subtle distinctions to mark out the electric e-208.

Inside, the new Peugeot e-208 has the same distinctive layout as all other Peugeot 208. It uses an ultra-small steering wheel, with a colourful, widescreen head-up-style instrument display viewed from above the wheel, rather than through it. This is called the Peugeot i-Cockpit layout. If you’re considering buying or leasing a new Peugeot e-208 for the first time, it does take some getting used to, but owners do seem to really like it.

In the centre is an additional touchscreen, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. ‘Piano key’ shortcuts below give direct access to important functions. There are dual USB sockets and a dedicated ledge for storing your smartphone. The new Peugeot e-208 comes as standard in five-door guise, and all models boast a 311-litre boot – the same size as the petrol-powered Peugeot 208.

The new 2023 Peugeot e-208 gets an increase in power of some 15% over the current car.

New Peugeot e-208: engines and gearboxes

The new Peugeot e-208 uses the same powertrain as in the recently-revealed new Peugeot e-308. This is a family car powertrain in a small electric car – and it delivers an impressive power output that’s up 15% on today’s model.

Overall, the new 2023 Peugeot e-208 boasts 156PS, which is bound to result in appreciably faster 0-62mph acceleration than the 8.1 seconds of today’s car. This will make it as fast as a warm hatch – and certainly surprise those who line up alongside it at the traffic lights!

Being an electric car, the Peugeot e-208 is easy to drive, thanks to its standard automatic gearbox. This is controlled by a toggle on the centre console. There are several different drive modes too, including a sport mode.

The new Peugeot e-208 also has an improved electric driving range. It’s now capable of covering 248 miles between charges, a 10% improvement in range. The larger 51kWh battery is more efficient too, so overall electrical consumption has been reduced by 15%.

With an optional 11kW fast charger, the new Peugeot e-208 is able to use 100kW rapid chargers. This will deliver a boost in range from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes. The MyPeugeot smartphone app allows owners to monitor the state of the charge remotely, for added convenience.

The current Peugeot 208 was launched to buy or lease in 2019, with the electric Peugeot e-208 following soon after. A used 2020 e-208 Allure, with 15,500 miles on the clock, looked good value to us at just under £24,000.

If you can afford to, it’s worth looking out for cars registered from early 2022. These have an improved battery range, which grew from 211 miles to 225 miles. We saw a 2022 Allure Premium with less than 2,000 miles on the clock for £28,99
