heycar at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Written By Phil Hall

The Goodwood Festival of Speed has become an essential date on the calendar for anyone who loves cars and motorsport.

Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of the Goodwood Estate, it's now in its 21st year and attracts crowds of up to 150,000 people each day over the four days it's on. It's main attraction is the a brilliant chance to get up close and see both historic and modern-day cars speed up the iconic hill climb, but there are a wide variety of other attractions to enjoy throughout the festival.

Keep reading to take a look at some of the highlights from the 2024 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed...

First Glance Paddock

Presented by heycar, First Glance is a brilliant way to see some of the latest cars. In fact, many of the world's car manufacturers take the opportunity to use the Festival of Speed to take the wraps of their latest models.

This year, MG not only announced the second-generation MG HS at FoS, the company's popular family SUV, but it also revealed the Cyber GTS concept - a Cyberster with a hardtop.

The day before Goodwood Festival of Speed started and Ford took the covers off the new Ford Capri. It has certainly divided opinion, but visitors to the First Glance Paddock had a chance to poke around the new Capri to judge for themselves, while it also ventured up the hill climb.

While Polestar might have cornered the market in sophisticated electric cars like the Polestar 2, it didn't stop it wowing visitors with the Concept BST. Based on the forthcoming Polestar 6, the Concept BST is a two-seat roadster with a removable roof, vented bonnet, front splitter and large rear wing.

Elsewhere and MINI debuted its first all-electric John Cooper Works model. With its striking red livery with a white track design, the new MINI John Cooper Works was being driven by the Bulldog Racing team - a private racing team based in Nürburg.

It's expected to be fully revealed later this year and caps off a busy year for the famous brand, with MINI already launching the MINI Cooper and MINI Countryman this year.

Toyota showcased its hydrogen-powered version of it's brilliant GR Yaris, taking the Duke of Richmond for a blast up the hill. Genesis also showcased four cars - the G80 EV Magma Concept, G70 Track Taxi Nordschleife, GV80 Coupe and the GV60 Magma Concept.

The GV60 Magma Concept is expected to go into production very soon, making it the first of the Magma cars to be available to buy. In a similar way to what sister brand Hyundai has done with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5 N, the GV60 Magma Concep is designed to be a high-end version of the GV60, with an enhanced battery and motor tech, as well as improved handling.

2024 Festival of Speed Central Feature

The Central Feature has become a must-see part of the Festival of Speed, honouring famous car marks throughout over years. For 2024 it was the turn of a resurgent MG, which this year is celebrating its centenary.

Sitting proudly outside the main house on the lawn, the MG sculpture has been designed by Gerry Judah and is intended to capture the two defining elements of MG: lightweight design and clever engineering. Sitting on the spar are two sports cars that represent the famous brand's past and future - MG B and the new MG Cyberster.

Other Festival of Speed highlights

Concept cars and road cars are just one part of the Festival of Speed, with a wide ranging variety of cars involved throughout the weekend.

You'll find anything from 90s drift cars to classic motorbikes making their way up the hill, while you'll also see and hear modern-day supercars screaming up the climb. Perhaps the biggest draw though is the Formula 1 cars - with Goodwood Festival of Speed held the week after the British Grand Prix, you'll get to see much of the current crop of F1 drivers wrestle an F1 car up the hill.

To go behind the scenes and see more amazing cars, check out our Instagram and Facebook pages, while you can also still enter our competition.

Next year's Festival of Speed will take place from 10th-13th July 2025.

Ticket prices start at £63 for general admission on Thursday, rising to £103 for Saturday admission.

If you want to make a weekend of it, you can book camping for £225 per pitch, with the campsite open from Wednesday.
