Volkswagen has announced new stylish and well-equipped Black Edition models for four of its best-selling cars.
The Polo, the Taigo, the T-Roc and the Golf will all be available in Black Edition form, with the order books opening on July 4. As the name suggests, cars in Black Edition trim will get various black styling features, as well as a range of upgrades that builds on the existing sporty R-Line trim.
Adding dark elements to cars is popular, with manufacturers like BMW, Audi, SEAT and Porsche offering Shadow Edition and Black Edition models. Mercedes-Benz has also offered Black Edition models too, although these have tended to be exclusive, sportier cars rather than cars with black elements on them.
New 2024 Volkswagen Black Editions: price and release date
The various new Volkswagen Black Edition models go on sale on July 4, with prices either £500 more than the corresponding R-Line trim on the Polo and Taigo, and £1000 more on the T-Roc and the Golf. However, VW says the cost of the extra features would be several times more if they were added as options – up to £3,875 more if added to the T-Roc R-Line.
New 2024 Volkswagen Black Editions: interior and exterior
The exact specifications of the new Volkswagen Black Editions vary from car to car, but all include larger alloy wheels, black styling elements, upgraded lights and heated front seats compared to the R-Line models.
The exterior black elements include a black roof, black roof rails, black alloy wheels and black side mirrors.
Looking at each model, the Polo Black Edition gets 17-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights and heated front seats, as well as wireless charging for smartphones.
The Taigo Black Edition gets 18-inch wheels and all the above mentioned features, as do the T-Roc and the Golf.
New 2024 Volkswagen Black Editions: engines and gearboxes
The Volkswagen Polo Black Edition comes only with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 115PS and a DSG automatic gearbox. There’s more choice in the Taigo Black Edition, which can be specified with the same 1.0 TSI engine with 115PS, either with DSG or a manual gearbox, as well as a more powerful 1.5 TSI petrol engine with DSG and 150PS.
The T-Roc Black Edition comes with the 150PS 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with either DSG or a manual ‘box, while the Golf Black Edition is only available with the 1.5 TSI 150PS engine with a manual gearbox.
