New 2024 Toyota Yaris: Price, specs and release date

The new Toyota Yaris has been updated with extra features, more safety tech and a more powerful new engine option.

The new Toyota Yaris’ mid-life facelift also sees the small hybrid car's digital interior tech get a far-reaching overhaul, packing in more features than ever.

The new Toyota Yaris’ more powerful 129PS 1.5-litre hybrid engine option brings extra power and performance without compromising fuel economy. The existing 114PS option remains on sale at a more affordable price.

The new Toyota Yaris has been refreshed to face off competition from rivals including the Honda Jazz, closely-related Mazda 2 Hybrid, the fully-refreshed Renault Clio and other top-selling small cars such as the Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208, Volkswagen Polo and value-priced Dacia Sandero.

New 2024 Toyota Yaris: exterior and interior

The new Toyota Yaris looks similar to the old one on the outside. Already a fun, distinctive machine, the firm has decided no major changes were needed – meaning it still has more than a passing resemblance to the rally-bred Toyota GR Yaris range-topper!

The new Toyota Yaris GR Sport version makes the links even more obvious, with 18-inch machined alloy wheels, red deco lines and bold GR Sport badging. The new Toyota Yaris GR Sport is available in an exclusive Dynamic Grey colour.

The new Toyota Yaris now has a range-topping version called Premiere Edition. This stands out with bi-tone paint that blends a black roof with Neptune Blue, Platinum Pearl or Silver Metallic paint. Meanwhile, Jupiter Blue is a new colour choice for other versions.

Inside, the new Toyota Yaris is available with updated digital infotainment tech. Icon and Design grade feature a 9.0-inch centre touchscreen and 7.0-inch driver display – but GR Sport, Excel and Premiere Edition have an improved large-format 12.3-inch driver display and 10.5-inch centre display with Toyota Smart Connect+.

The new Toyota Yaris has wireless smartphone connectivity via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Toyota Smart Connect+ system adds voice commands – say ‘hey Toyota, I’m cold’ and it will turn the heater up.

The new Toyota Yaris has improved safety assist technology. The adaptive cruise control is more comprehensive, and other safety assist systems have been retuned so they work more smoothly. Part of the Toyota Safety Sense system standard to all new Toyota Yaris, extra features include safe exit assist, which sounds a warning if there’s a risk of opening a car door onto a cyclist.

The stylish new Toyota Yaris GR Sport features front sports seats with red upholstery and stitching, sports pedals, a perforated leather steering wheel and plenty of GR badging throughout.

New 2024 Toyota Yaris: engines and gearboxes

The new Toyota Yaris continues to offer an all-hybrid engine line-up. Known as ‘self-charging’ hybrid tech, the system delivers a surprising amount of engine-off pure electric city driving, without the need to plug in the battery.

The 114PS 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol hybrid engine continues as before. It can do 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds and can average a superb 70.6mpg, according to official tests. CO2 emissions start from just 92g/km.

There’s an extra new Toyota Yaris engine choice for 2024 though – a more powerful 129PS version of the 1.5-litre hybrid engine. The extra power gives it useful extra punch in everyday driving, with 0-62mph performance in 9.2 seconds. Yet it can still average 67.3mpg, with CO2 emissions from 96g/km.

An ingenuous feature for the new Toyota Yaris hybrid engine is called ‘predictive state of charge’ control which kicks in when driving downhill or on congested roads. It uses data from the sat nav to ensure the battery charge level maximises EV driving, which helps improve real-world fuel economy.

The new Toyota Yaris GR Sport is a more affordable five-door alternative to the full-fat, rally-bred Toyota GR Yaris three-door. It blends the efficient hybrid drivetrain and better practicality with GR-themed styling features outside and in. It is providing to be a very popular new Toyota Yaris version.
