The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is the first ever hybrid-engined road-going Porsche, promising even more performance for the world-famous sports car.

Powering the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is an all-new powertrain called T-Hybrid. This combines a brand new engine with an electric turbocharger and electric motor, for a striking 541PS power output and scintillating acceleration times.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS also has tweaked styling to mark it out from earlier models, plus a more high-tech interior with a fully digital driver’s display.

The regular Porsche 911 Carrera has been facelifted too, combining the new styling features with an enhanced twin-turbo engine that, even in standard guise, produces 394PS.

The facelifted new Porsche 911 range will provide renewed competition to exotic rivals such as the enhanced new Aston Martin Vantage, the McLaren Artura, upcoming new Bentley Continental GT and the svelte Ferrari Roma.

New Porsche 911 prices will be confirmed later this year.

If you can’t wait for the new Porsche 911, why not search for a used Porsche 911 on heycar?

Why is the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS hybrid so special?

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS’ T-Hybrid system uses a brand new 3.6-litre six-cylinder boxer turbo engine. Without electrical assistance, it produces 485PS – and with the hybrid boost, it produces 541PS.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS engine uses a new turbo design, that incorporates an integrated electric motor. This alone produces 15PS, and eliminates turbo lag. There is another electric motor built into the eight-speed PDK automatic gearbox, powered by a 1.9kWh battery, that provides an extra power boost.

It all adds up to 0-62mph performance in just 3.0 seconds for the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. CO2 emissions are also reduced, and it can officially average almost 28mpg.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS also has rear wheel steering as standard, and an updated PDCC anti-roll system. There are wider tyres for the standard 21-inch alloy wheels too.

If you’re not ready to go hybrid, the new Porsche 911 Carrera also has a revised 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine. It now uses the intercooler from the range-topping Porsche 911 Turbo, plus the turbochargers from the old Porsche 911 GTS. It produces 394PS for 0-62mph in as little as 3.9 seconds.

What are the other new Porsche 911 facelift changes?

The facelifted new Porsche 911 range has tweaked exterior styling. All light functions are now built into the standard matrix LED headlights. This means the driving lights in the front bumper are eliminated, making space for larger cooling vents.

On the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS pictured here, five distinctive vertically-arranged active cooling air flaps give it a more aggressive appearance. Aerodynamics are improved as well.

At the rear of the facelifted new Porsche 911, there is a redesigned light strip with integrated arc and bold ‘PORSCHE’ logo. The number plate is positioned higher, and the rear grille now has five fins on each side that blend into the retractable spoiler.

Inside, the facelifted new Porsche 911 is now a two-seater as standard. The famous 2+2 seating layout is now a no-cost option. This has been done to cut weight on the standard version.

The new Porsche 911 has a fully digital instrument cluster for the first time. There are up to seven views – including a Classic display with the iconic 911 five-dial layout, with the rev counter in the centre.

The new Porsche 911 has an enhanced Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system too. The 10.9-inch touchscreen has better connectivity and Apple CarPlay is more deeply integrated – even showing information in the instrument cluster.

The facelifted new Porsche 911 now offers video streaming while parked, and both Spotify and Apple Music can be used independently of a smartphone.

The new Porsche 911 hybrid is a conventional ‘self-charging’ hybrid, rather than a plug-in hybrid with an extended EV range.

The easiest way to spot the facelifted new Porsche 911 at a glance is by its enlarged front air intakes in either side of the front bumper, which no longer carry built-in driving lamps. They have a distinctive five-slat ‘razor-edge’ look on the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.

Currently, only the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS has the new hybrid powertrain. Regular new Porsche 911 Carrera models continue with the 3.0-litre twin-turbo non-hybrid engine. However, it is likely the hybrid tech will in time expand across the full line-up.
