Facelifted 2024 BMW i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe revealed: first pictures and details

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and electric BMW i4 have been facelifted with full details revealed ahead of their UK release this summer.  

The new BMW i4 and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe both have refreshed exterior design, including updated headlights, new paint colours and alloy wheel options, and optional rear ‘Laserlight’ tail lamps.

Inside, there are new steering wheel designs, refreshed upholstery choices and enhanced trim elements.

The new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and new BMW i4 also use the latest version of BMW iDrive infotainment, with the BMW Operating System 8.5 now including convenient ‘QuickSelect’ controls. An Augmented View for BMW Maps sat nav is optional as well.

UK deliveries of the new BMW i4 and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe begin in July 2024.

The updates will enable the new BMW i4 to take on electric rivals such as the BYD Seal, enhanced Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. The new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will challenge four-door coupes such as the Audi A5 Sportback and Volkswagen Arteon. 

What's been updated on the new 2024 BMW i4?

The new BMW i4 now features a kidney grille surround in matt chrome. The upper section is fully enclosed, to boost aero efficiency, and the black high-gloss surface is topped by a matt silver honeycomb pattern.

M Sport specification brings a diffuser element in the lower section of the new BMW i4’s rear bumper, finished in high-gloss black. Also available are M Sport Pro and M Carbon exterior pack options.

The clever headlights of the new BMW i4 have low- and high-beam generated from a single LED module. Vertical arrow-shaped LED units contain side light, daytime running light and indicator functions. Optional Adaptive LED headlights have cool blue inlays.

The Adaptative LED headlights are combined with new Laserlight rear lights for the new BMW i4. Laser diodes illuminate fibre optics, giving an intricate and detailed light graphic. They were first seen on the famous BMW M4 CSL.

Inside, the new BMW i4 has a range of new steering wheel designs, along with standard ambient lighting that can be switched between nine different colours, and fresh upholstery including an instrument panel in soft-touch Sensatec. The new BMW i4 can also be had with CraftedClarity glass gear selector, BMW iDrive controller and Start/Stop buttons.

The new BMW i4, along with the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, come with BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect. This sees the number of physical buttons in the cabin reduced. Instead, climate control functions are accessed through the BMW Curved Display touchscreen, or by voice command.

The new BMW i4 range opens with the i4 eDrive35, which has an electric range from 240 miles. Prices start from £50,365. The new BMW i4 eDrive40 has a larger battery with a range from 291 miles, and prices from £58,460.

The new BMW i4 M50, which has 544PS and 0-62mph performance in 3.9 seconds, has a range from 257 miles and cists from £69,995.

What's different with the 2024 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe?

To contrast with the new BMW i4, the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe’s air intakes have a mesh structure with surfaces now available in matt Quartz Silver.

At the rear, the exhaust tailpipes have grown from 90mm to 100mm in diameter, and are finished in high-gloss black if the optional M Shadowline pack is selected.

As with the new BMW i4, the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is available in new colour choices, including Cape York Green metallic and Fire Red metallic. New 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels are available too.

Inside, the new steering wheel designs for the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe all have standard gearshift paddles.

As with the new BMW i4, the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe doesn’t have physical climate control buttons anymore. Instead, they’re integrated into a touch strip within the BMW Operating System 8.5 infotainment system. There are also icons for quick access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is available in entry-level rear-wheel drive 420i guise, a 184PS 2.0-litre turbo model that costs from £43,830.

The new BMW M440i xDrive has a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine featuring 48V mild hybrid tech as standard. It also has xDrive all-wheel drive capability. Producing 374PS, it costs from £59,545.
