Volvo V60 Review 2024: Side Rear View

Volvo's V60 and V90 estate cars are back on sale in the UK, after a U-turn on a decision to drop them because of a lack of demand.

While the saloon versions – the S60 and S90 – won’t be making a return, orders for the V60 and V90 are now open again, with prices starting at £43,370 for the V60 and £62,280 for the V90.

In a statement in June, Volvo said: “We removed the V60 and V90 from sale in the UK last August amid falling appetite for estate cars. While this remains a long-term trend, we have seen a resurgence for our estate products in recent months and have decided to reintroduce the V60 and V90 to our UK portfolio in response to this.”

Volvo says that, because the car industry moves quickly, decisions on whether or not to sell particular cars in particular markets are being continually reevaluated. “As part of this process, it is not uncommon for us to remove certain models or derivatives from sale and introduce them later.

“We were thrilled by the many comments from customers and media last year, with many stories and memories of how our estate cars have been a huge part of their lives. We look forward to helping create more!”

The returning cars compete against other relatively high-end estate cars, such as the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate for the V60, and the Audi A6 Avant, BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes E-Class Estate for the V90.

Both the Volvo V60 and the Volvo V90 are on sale now, with deliveries expected before the end of September.

The AWD Volvo V90, meanwhile, starts at £62,280 for the T6 Plug-in Hybrid Plus, and the T8 Ultra model costs from £70,780.

The Volvo V60 is available with a 197PS mild-hybrid petrol engine, called the B4, with front wheel drive, or with a choice of two plug-in hybrid powertrains with all-wheel drive. The T6 uses a 145PS electric motor with a 253PS engine, while the T8 uses a more powerful 310PS engine. A PHEV V60 will give you an electric-only driving range of up to 56.5 miles on a full battery.

The larger Volvo V90 is available only with all-wheel drive and as a plug-in hybrid, with an electric-only range of up to 65 miles. The T6 and T8 are both available, with 350PS in the T6 and 455PS in the T8.

Both cars are available in Plus or Ultra trims. The V60 B4 comes in both trims, while the T6 is only available with Plus and the T8 only in Ultra. Both trims are very well equipped – highlights of the Plus model include a heated steering wheel, 19-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable driver's seats, leather upholstery and a ten-speaker sound system. Ultra, meanwhile, adds a panoramic roof, a Harman Kardon sound system and adaptive criuse control, as well as a 360-degree camera system.

The PHEV-only V90 also comes in Plus trim on the T6 and Ultra on the T8.

Estate cars were once hugely popular within Volvo’s range, but the demand for SUVs has overtaken them in recent years. Global sales figures show that the V60 and V90 were the lowest-selling models for Volvo in 2023, selling 44,600 units combined compared to 228,600 units for the brand’s best performer, the XC60.
