New 2024 DS 4: price, specs and release date

DS has given its DS 4 hatchback an update for 2024, bringing in two new trim levels, visual tweaks and some extra equipment, as well as a new powertrain option.

Visually, there are some very minor adjustments to the looks, but most of the changes on the DS 4 are in the levels of equipment. The old trim levels are gone, replaced by two new ones – Pallas and Etoile – and they have new equipment to go with them. There’s also a new power option in the form of the Hybrid 136, which uses a full-hybrid petrol-electric setup to save fuel over the standard petrol model.

The DS 4 is a rival for other stylish, premium hatchbacks like the BMW 1 Series, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Volkswagen Golf and the Audi A3.

New 2024 DS 4: price and release date

The revised DS 4 is on sale now, with prices starting at £31,950 for the Etoile trim or £31,950 for the Pallas. That’s for the petrol-powered PureTech 130 engine – the new Hybrid 136 model costs from £33,300, while the diesel BlueHDi 130 starts from £33,900. The E-Tense 225 plug-in hybrid costs from £40,180.

New 2024 DS 4: interior and exterior

There are some visual changes to inside and outside of the 2024 DS 4 but they’re very minimal. Most of the changes come with the new trim levels – more on those shortly – and there’s a new colour choice called Night Flight, which is a purple-grey. LED headlights and rear lights are included as standard.

Inside, you’ll find the same classy interior with plenty of standard equipment including an infotainment system that now features ChatGPT as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 430-litre boot is unchanged (390 litres in the plug-in hybrid model).

New 2024 DS 4: electric motors, range and batteries

The new addition to the 2024 DS 4 range is the Hybrid 136 powertrain, which is a petrol-electric full-hybrid slotting in just below the BlueHDi diesel model in terms of price. It puts out 136PS and 230Nm and uses a six-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Because the battery is located under the seats, boot space isn’t affected, unlike in the plug-in hybrid model.

Citroen says the Hybrid 136 will get 8mpg better fuel economy than the similarly powered PureTech 130 petrol model.

You can also get the plug-in hybrid E=Tense 225 model, which has more power than other models in the range and can manage up to 41.6 miles on electric power only.

New 2024 DS 4: trim levels

The new trim levels replace the old Performance Line, Rivoli and Opera trims. Pallas is the new entry-level model, but comes well-equipped with fabric seats, a wireless charger and adaptive cruise control.

Etoile (named after the top level of ballet dancer in the Opera National de Paris ballet) adds Alcantara upholstered seats, electric adjustability in the front seats, a head-up display to beam driving information onto the windscreen in front of the driver, and upgraded Matrix LED headlights. You can also specify the Etoile with Nappa leather and a heated steering wheel and front seats.
