2025 Kia EV5

The new Kia EV5 is a future electric SUV that is set to provide an EV family SUV alternative to the popular Kia Sportage.

The new Kia EV5 will be a smaller alternative to the dramatic new Kia EV9. It will seat five and offer several combinations of electric motor and battery size.

Importantly, the new Kia EV5 will share the cutting-edge styling cues of the new Kia EV9, making it a guaranteed head-turner. It will be a rugged alternative to the sporty Kia EV6

In terms of rivals, the new Kia EV5 will take on the upcoming electric Ford Explorer, plus the popular Skoda Enyaq iV, Volkswagen ID.4 and Nissan Ariya

Naturally, it will also face competition from the Tesla Model Y and we’d expect an electric SUV alternative from Hyundai too.

New 2025 Kia EV5 price and release date

The new Kia EV5 will slot in between the larger Kia EV9 and smaller Kia EV3, a model the company has yet to tease as a physical concept.

New Kia EV5 prices are likely to fall in line with key rivals. We’d expect the core range to start from around £40,000, with higher-spec, longer-range models inching over the £50,000 mark.

It will be released for sale in China first, probably during 2024. It is likely to arrive in the UK in 2025.

New 2025 Kia EV5: exterior and interior

The new Kia EV5 is definitely going to attract attention. It has muscular, square-edged styling that cleverly blends straight lines with flowing curves. It is unquestionably unique.

The new Kia EV5 brings to family SUV buyers the same sharp style of the new Kia EV9. The ultra-slim LED headlights are hidden within bright white LED light bars, and the smoothed-off front end gives it an aero appearance.

The pronounced windowline of the new Kia EV5 flows rearwards into a geometric-style triangular ‘kick’ that blends into the rear window. The straight line of the upper roof combines with it to enhance the traditional 4x4 cues of this futuristic modern SUV.

Inside, the new Kia EV5 has a widescreen display that comprises a feature-packed 12.3-inch centre touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. There is an additional 5.0-inch climate control display.

The ‘floating’ panoramic screens help give a modern, paired-back look to the interior, while the dashboard has more geometric-style detailing.

There are some clever tech features inside the new Kia EV5 as well. Beneath the centre screen are four ‘hidden’ hard keys for vehicle stop/start and the climate control system. They replace what previously would have required 17 buttons.

Modern colour choices for the new Kia EV5 include the smart brown seen here, which is set off by premium detailing and metal highlights. Other welcoming colour combinations will be available.

The aim, says Kia, is for the interior of the new Kia EV5 to be more like a home ‘lounge’ than a traditional car interior. Bosses are also promising exceptional versatility and outstanding comfort.

The new Kia EV5 has a choice of front seats, offering different levels of safety and comfort. It also offers a full-flat-folding second row camping seat, complete with a rear console refrigerator and warmer. This can keep food and drinks within a temperature range of 5 degrees to 55 degrees Celsius.

The new Kia EV5 also has a versatile Multi Table luggage board, which easily removes from the car and transforms into a table.

Safety is high on the agenda, with the new Kia EV5 featuring seven airbags and the latest driver assist systems including Highway Driving Assist 2. This helps drivers remain distance and stay centred within their lane, as well as assisting lane changes.

New 2025 Kia EV5: battery, range and performance

The new Kia EV5 is set to be offered in the UK solely in all-wheel drive AWD guise. There will be a choice of two batteries, either 58kWh or 81kWh.

The new Kia EV5 standard model will pair the 58kWh battery with a 217ps front-wheel drive motor. It may offer a range of around 280 miles.

The new Kia EV5 AWD will have an 81kWh battery and pair the same front electric motor with an additional motor driving the rear wheels, for system power of 305ps. It is set to offer an electric range of over 400 miles.

Fast-charging capability will be standard, potentially with the same high-power 350kW system as the Kia EV6.

The new Kia EV5 will also have a standard heat pump, plus regenerative braking with an i-Pedal system that allows single pedal motoring.
