New 2024 Volvo EM90

The new Volvo EM90 is a surprise luxury MPV from the premium Swedish brand, offering super-luxury travel in an eco-conscious zero-emission EV package

The bold-looking new Volvo EM90 is already on sale in China and Volvo is understood to be looking at potential in other markets, including the UK. The new Volvo EM90 would be a swish people-carrying alternative to the upcoming new Volvo EX90 SUV.

The Lexus LM luxury MPV has already been launched here in the UK, and is proving surprisingly popular amongst luxury people carrier customers.

Another rival is the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which is also available in pure electric guise, the Mercedes-Benz EQV.

The new Volvo EM90 will also be an interesting alternative to the super-funky Volkswagen ID.Buzz

New 2024 Volvo EM90: price and release date

The new Volvo EM90 will be a high-end car with a luxury-grade price tag. In China, the range starts at just over £90,000, and it’s not improbably that the price could rise to more than £100,000 by the time the new Volvo EM90 arrives here in the UK.

The new Volvo EM90 is already on sale in China. A decision on its release in other markets will be taken soon, meaning it could arrive in the UK some time in 2024 or 2025.

New 2024 Volvo EM90: exterior and interior

The new Volvo EM90 has a very striking exterior. It is big and boxy, in the regular MPV style, but also has ultra-modern detailing including a high-tech front end. The pixel-style headlights are stylish and the closed-off front grille is futuristic. The traditional Volvo logo is pressed into this, and is illuminated.

The new Volvo EM90 has a choice of either 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels. There are four different colours. All new Volvo EM90 have a large tailgate, and sliding rear doors five easy access to the back seats.

Inside, the new Volvo EM90 is lavish and luxurious. The launch version has six seats, spread across three rows, with the middle seats being rich, aircraft-style multi-adjustable chairs. They electrically recline and have an array of stowage bins and comfort-boosting gadgets. The new Volvo EM90 also has huge side windows for an excellent view out – and a massive panoramic glass roof.

To keep those in the rear of the new Volvo EM90 entertained, there is a 15.6-inch cinema-style screen that folds down from the roof. This plays video and other multimedia, with sound coming courtesy of a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo.

In the front, the new Volvo EM90 showcases the firm’s latest ultra-clean design. There are few buttons, with controls centred on the 15.4-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard. There is a supplementary driver display and buttons on the steering wheel.

The new Volvo EM90 will offer a commanding view out, thanks to its high-set seats. It also has clever quarterlights in the windscreen pillars, which will help improve visibility at junctions.

New 2024 Volvo EM90: range and performance

The new Volvo EM90 is currently offered with a single 272PS electric motor choice. This drives the rear wheels and gives 0-62mph performance in 8.3 seconds. The electric motor will have plenty of pulling power to deal with a fully-laden new Volvo EM90.

The new Volvo EM90 also has a particularly large battery, with a 116kWh capacity. On the official Chinese EV test, it has a range of almost 460 miles. Expect it to get near to 400 miles even on the more strict European WLTP electric car range test.

The new Volvo EM90 will serve up an extremely comfortable ride thanks to dual-chamber air suspension. It will have a glide-along feel that will be backed up by so-called ‘silent tyres’, making the interior a haven of peace and quiet.

Also expect an extremely high level of safety from the new Volvo EM90, in line with the firm’s peerless reputation for saving lives. It will be one of the safest ways for six people to travel in comfort.
