2025 Renault 4 E-Tech

Renault has pulled back the covers on the all-new Renault 4.

Revealed at the Paris Motor Show, the new all-electric Renault 4 E-Tech (to give it its full name) is a very modern but retro-inspired small SUV that should give customers of the MINI Aceman, Peugeot E-2008 and Vauxall Mokka pause for thought.

The new pure electric car follows on from the Renault 5 in heralding the EV future of the famous French brand, albeit one very much inspired by cars of its pass.

The new Renault 4 will line up alongside the new Renault 5 in the same way the Renault Clio and Captur sit alongside each other today. The Renault 5 is the EV supermini hatch and the Renault 4 is the electric compact SUV alternative.

The new Renault 4 electric is one of a number of new small electric cars due to launch in the coming years. Other potential rivals include the Jeep Avenger, the Kia EV3 and the Citroen e-C3.

New 2025 Renault 4 E-Tech: price and release date

The new Renault 4 E-Tech will arrive in the UK in the middle of 2025. No prices or even full specifications have yet been announced – they're due at the start of 2025, but we'd expect prices to start at around £32,000 to be competitive against its rivals.

The new Renault 4 E-Tech takes design inspiration from the classic Renault 4 of the 1960s.

New 2024 Renault 4 E-Tech: exterior and interior

The new Renault 4 is a retro-inspired but forward-looking small SUV. It feature an oblong light-up grille and lots of nods to the original Renault 4 of the 1960s, including round LED headlights, three-part rear headlights and the classic Renault 4 trapezoidal rear side windows.

The original Renault 4’s main features have been retained, but revived in an all-new and thoroughly modern way. The silhouette is identifiably classic Renault 4, with a prominent bonnet, bumper and angled rear section. A retractable electric canvas roof is also evokes the original car, making the new Renault 4 a convertible of sorts.

There are seven paint colours to choose from – Hauts-de-France Green, Glacier White, Urban Grey, Diamond Black, Carmine Red, Terracotta Brown and Cloud Blue. Two tone options will also be available.

Renault has said the new car is larger than the Renault 5 at 4.14 metres long, even though it shares 68% of its components with the hatchback. This makes the Renault 4 longer than the MINI Aceman and Jeep Avenger but shorter than some other rivals.

Inside, dual horizontal screens keeps the Renault 4 very modern, with a 10-inch central infotainment system as standard, with various Google features built in. There's also Reno, a "virtual travelling companion" also seen on the Renault 5. Reno is an animated character that appears on the car's screen to help with questions you might have about your journey, charging and various other information. It's not dissimilar to Siri on Apple products or Alexa on Amazon devices.

There's a 420-litre boot, which is pretty large for this type of car, and an electric boot lid. A 35-litre underfloor area can hold the car's charging cable.

The interior features dual screens for driver instruments and infotainment duties.

New 2025 Renault 4 E-Tech: motors and batteries

Renault has announced two powertrains for the Renault 4 E-Tech, both of which come with a heat pump as standard, as well as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, which let battery power feed electricity back to the mains or to an external device.

The entry level battery is a 40kWh unit, which is mated to a 120PS, 225Nm electric motor, giving a predicted range of up to 186 miles on a full charge, although this hasn't yet been independently certified. It can charge at up to 80kW.

The upgraded option is a lightweight 52kWh battery with a 150PS, 245Nm electric motor, which Renault says means a 0-62mph acceleration time of less than 8.5 seconds and a predicted range of up to 250 miles. It can fast charge at up to 100kW on a suitable DC charger, meaning a top up from 15% to 80% capacity takes 30 minutes.
