If you’re looking for a no-nonsense used panel van then the Peugeot Boxer is as good a place to start as any. This practical hauler has been around for a few years, but has been improved over successive incarnations.
What you get with the Peugeot Boxer then is limited style but oodles of everyday usability. Whatever the body style, the Boxer provides plenty of capacity, can carry hefty payloads and is powered by generally good engines, even though they have a reputation for being a tad noisy.
Since 2022 the Boxer has also been available as the e-Boxer, which isn’t built by the manufacturer as such but farmed out to a third-party firm that carries out the conversion. It works well and might be a good solution if you do a lof of inner city deliveries or short runs.
Equally, the diesel engines are dependable and combined with the workmanlike interior means the Peugeot Boxer gets the job done in unfussy fashion. Spend a little more on your used Boxer and you can move up to one of the higher specification trims, which makes the van rather more enjoyable than the bare bones basic edition.
If you’re looking for an affordable used buy, there’s a huge amount of choice. Take a look at a Peugeot Boxer for sale on heycar to discover just what’s on offer.
The Peugeot Boxer is a classic utility vehicle, which probably explains why it remains little changed today compared to earlier editions. However, in recent years the durable panel van has been given a once over or two, so later editions in the Professional trim are quite appealing.
There’s no doubt the carrying capabilities of the van, and it can also be had in different variants, so if you have specific needs then pick through the used examples to see the breadth of the van styles you can buy.
You’ve got plenty of alternatives however, like the Fiat Ducato and the Citroen Relay, which are both close relatives. There’s also the similarly hardy Ford Transit or the Nissan NV400, while the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter offer a rather more upmarket variation on the theme.
But, if you’re just after a useful workhorse and don’t feel the need to impress then the Peugeot Boxer is as good now as it’s ever been.
A Peugeot Boxer not for you? We've got 1000s of used vans for sale to suit all budgets and needs.
Many will buy the Boxer with functionality the first priority so will just look to keep costs as cheap as possible, but the difference in cost between the basic S trim and the mid-range Professional is small enough that it is worth making the step.
The extra kit includes air conditioning, cruise control, lumbar support on the driver’s seat and satellite navigation for a relatively low financial upgrade.
If you don’t need the bigger models then the 120PS engine is still capable of carrying a large payload. If you want anything other than the shortest and lowest model you have no choice but to upgrade to the more powerful engine, which brings a notable upgrade in price.
The electric Peugeot e-Boxer is substantially more expensive than the equivalent diesel Boxer. While you'll slowly make that money back in reduced fuel costs, it's definitely worth doing the sums to make sure it's a financially sound investment.
The Peugeot Boxer has been around for a good few years and feels a little dated alongside some of the more up to date rivals. Therefore, if you can stretch to it the Professional Premium + model is the one to look out for.

Taxing the Peugeot Boxer van is different to taxing a car and it doesn’t matter how much it emits or how much it costs. Every van is subject to the same flat-rate of VED and they all qualify for the same Benefit-in-Kind company car tax rate. However, for now at least, the electric e-Boxer doesn't cost anything in road tax.
The Peugeot Boxer almost benefits from having been a part of the commercial vehicle landscape for so long. Therefore, insurance should be competitive with groups ranging from 5 to 8 for the standard panel van. This compares favourably to other more modern, flashier rival examples of the traditional panel van.
