Used Peugeot 2008 for sale: everything you need to know

The Peugeot 2008 is one of the most popular small SUVs on the market. So, if this kind of car appeals to you and you’re thinking about buying or leasing one used, there’s a strong possibility the 2008 is on your shopping list. In which case, you’ve come to the right place.

Here, we’ll take you through all the trim levels, breaking down exactly what you get with each one. And we’ll examine each of the engines that’s available, too.

With its continuing popularity, there’s are plenty of used Peugeot 2008s available to buy. While you’re here, why not take a look at the selection of models in stock at heycar?

Should you buy a Peugeot 2008?

The Peugeot 2008 is certainly a very stylish car. Its long, vertical daytime running lights and ‘three claw’ light signature make it unmistakeable when you see one approaching you. And there are other interesting styling details all over the car’s bodywork.

Inside, Peugeot’s distinctive split-level dashboard puts the instrument cluster high-up, in the driver’s eyeline. It looks really smart and has quite a premium feel. There are loads of standard features as well.

Space is generous – indeed, there’s more than enough for a family of four, and adults fit in the back comfortably. The boot is a good size, so cramming in everything you need for a family holiday should be easy.

The engines are fuel-efficient, so running costs will be low. And the 2008 is proving to be rather better-made and more reliable than Peugeots have proved in the past, which helps to keep retained values pretty strong.

Rivals for the Peugeot 2008 include the Ford Puma, Honda HR-V, Toyota Yaris Cross and Volkswagen T-Roc. Formidable opposition, but the 2008’s distinctive style and family-friendly interior make it a strong contender.

The 2008 feels good to drive, too. It’s light, nimble and cruises along the motorway easily. There’s a good spread of models to choose from, with several trim levels and engine options, so you should be able to find one that suits you.

A Peugeot 2008 not for you? We've got 1000s of used cars for sale to suit all budgets and needs.

What's the best used Peugeot 2008 model to buy?

If you want a great all-rounder, it’s worth considering the Peugeot 2008 GT in combination with the 130PS PureTech petrol engine. GT models look sharper thanks to their larger 18-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lights and glossy black highlights, while additional kit includes front and rear parking sensors and Peugeot’s cool 3D i-Cockpit display. The 130PS PureTech engine, meanwhile, is nippy but also very cheap to run.

Used Peugeot 2008 fuel economy and performance

The Peugeot 2008 has been offered with both petrol and diesel engines, with a choice of manual or eight-speed automatic gearboxes.

  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 100 petrol – The entry-level choice is a 100PS version of Peugeot’s turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. It has a six-speed manual gearbox and can get from 0-62mph in 11.0 seconds. Depending on the model, it produces CO2 emissions of up to 137g/km.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 130 petrol – The top-level engine is a 130PS version of the turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. You can choose between a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearboxes. Performance is livelier than with the 100PS engine: 0-62mph takes 9.7 seconds with the manual gearbox, 9.4 seconds with the automatic. There is a small penalty in increased CO2 emissions, though. These are up to 141g/km with the manual, or 147g/km with the automatic.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 155 petrol - The most powerful petrol engine in the 2008 was available up to late 2022. It came with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, giving 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds but with relatively high carbon dioxide emissions of 155g/km.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.5 BlueHDi 100 - A six-speed manual gearbox was the only option for this turbodiesel engine. It delivered combined economy claimed at 62.7mpg and 96g/km CO2 output, along with 0-62mph in 11.4 seconds.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.5 BlueHDi 110 - The 110PS version of Peugeot 1.5 turbodiesel superseded the 100PS unit in early 2021. Only offered with a manual gearbox, it improved performance to give 0-62mph in 10.5 seconds, along with 65.7mpg and 118g/km emissions.

What used Peugeot 2008 trim levels are available?

The Peugeot 2008 is available in four trim levels, starting with the Active Premium+ and topping out with the sporty GT Premium. They are all quite generously equipped compared with other small SUVs. All but the entry-level model come as standard with sat-nav and a 3D digital instrument cluster display that looks amazing.

  • Peugeot 2008 Active Premium+ – The entry-level 2008 model looks stylish and comes with a fairly generous amount of standard features, including air conditioning, LED headlights, automatic emergency braking and an emergency call system that automatically contacts the emergency services in the event of an accident. It’s only available with a 100PS 1.2-litre petrol engine.
  • Peugeot 2008 Allure Premium+ – The mid-range 2008 adds standard sat-nav, a digital instrument cluster, a reversing camera, leather-effect seat trim and bigger alloys to the standard features list. It’s available with 100PS or 130PS versions of the 1.2-litre petrol engine. The latter gives you a choice of a manual or automatic gearbox.
  • Peugeot 2008 GT – The top-of-the-range 2008 feels rather luxurious, with its more upmarket styling details and interior trim. There are extra features as well, including a 10-inch touchscreen display, heated front seats, wireless charging pad and front parking sensors. It comes with the 130PS petrol engine, again with a manual or automatic gearbox.
  • Peugeot 2008 GT Premium - The highest 2008 spec adds 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless push button start and go, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, lane guidance assist and Alcantara seat materials.

How much is it to insure a Peugeot 2008?

The Peugeot 2008 should be a relatively affordable car to insure. Depending on the model chosen, it slots into insurance groups 14-19 (out of 50). It’s worth noting that the mid-range Allure Premium+ is in a lower group than the entry-level Active Premium+ version. This is because it comes with more safety and security features, which insurance companies look favourably upon.
