Nissan improves Qashqai e-Power hybrid

2025 Nissan Qashqai e-Power

Nissan has updated its Qashqai e-Power hybrid, giving it more power while improving fuel economy and cutting emissions.

The e-Power model Nissan Qashqai is rather unusual, in that its 1.5-litre petrol engine powers a battery that in turn powers an electric motor to drive the wheels, like a full electric vehicle (EV). The earlier model, which has been around since 2022, promised 54mpg according to official figures, but that's now been upped to 62mpg, while also dropping CO2 emissioons from 117g/km to 102g/km.

On top of that, the engine has had a hike in power, taking it from 190PS to 205PS. Nissan claims the changes have also reduced cabin noise by up to 5.6dB, making it more EV-like. The changes are thanks to a new modular powertrain unit that integrates five components – the electric motor, the geneerator, the inverter, the reducer and the increaser – into a single compact and lighter package.

Oh, and the actual engine is all new – another three-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol unit built specifically for this kind of use. It's got longer service intervals than the old model, extending the gap from 9000 miles to 12,000.

Updated 2025 Nissan Qashqai e-Power: price and release date

The revised Nissan Qashqai – built in Sunderland – is due to go on sale from September. Prices haven't been announced yet; the current model costs from £30,615 and we don't anticipate a big change from that.
