BMW has given its electric SUV, the iX, an overhaul for 2025 with more power, an extended battery range and a tweaked design.

The latest iteration of the BMW iX comes in three versions—the iX xDrive45, iX xDrive60 M Sport, and the high-performance iX M70 xDrive.

BMW’s improvements should continue make the iX a formidable competitor to cars like the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, the Audi Q8 E-tron and the Tesla Model X. It now boasts a range of up to 426 miles from a single battery charge.

BMW has tweaked the look of the iX with what it says is a sportier and bolder design from the refined M Sport trim. Key new features include sculpted front and rear aprons, aerodynamically optimised 21- and 22-inch alloy wheels, and optional 23-inch wheels. A redesigned grille, available with optional BMW Iconic Glow illumination (standard on the M70 xDrive model), adds some extra bling.

Inside, the M Sport trim includes sythentic Alcantara/Sensatec sports seats, the BMW Curved Display infotainment setup, a Harman Kardon sound system, and an optional panoramic glass roof (or Sky Lounge, as BMW likes to call it).

Three power options are available across the new iX range, each delivering improved performance over previous models. The iX xDrive45 now produces 408PS – an increase of 82PS compared to the outgoing iX xDrive40 – allowing it to shave one second off its 0-62mph sprint, which is now 5.1 seconds.

The iX xDrive60 M Sport sees a power boost of 21PS over its predecessor, the iX xDrive50, delivering 544PS and accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds. The high-performance iX M70 xDrive, replacing the iX M60, offers a substantial power increase of 40PS, now boasting 659PS and a maximum torque of 1015 Nm, reaching 0-62mph in a blistering 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 155mph.

These performance figures are further complemented by an extended range, made possible by advancements in battery technology. The iX xDrive60 M Sport now achieves up to 426 miles on a single charge, around 34 miles more than the previous model. The iX xDrive45 benefits from a significant battery upgrade, increasing its range to 374 miles, up from the previous 321 miles in the iX xDrive40. Meanwhile, the iX M70 xDrive offers up to 366 miles, slightly improving on the 348-mile range of the outgoing iX M60.

Charging capabilities have also been optimised, with the iX xDrive60 and iX M70 xDrive supporting up to 195kW DC fast charging, while the iX xDrive45 allows for 175kW charging. All models can also be charged via AC at up to 22kW.
