The new Mercedes-Benz EQT is an all-electric version of the Mercedes-Benz T-Class small MPV.
Set to be open for configuration soon, the new Mercedes-Benz EQT will be offered in two different lengths – and the range will include a Mercedes-Benz EQT Marco Polo micro camper version, too.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT will go head-to-head with rival electric van-based small MPVs including the Vauxhall Combo Life Electric, Citroen e-Berlingo and the Peugeot e-Rifter. More competitors are expected in coming years, including electric rivals from Ford, Volkswagen and Renault (which will launch a Kangoo E-Tech Electric van-based small MPV that’s directly related to the new Mercedes-Benz EQT).
New Mercedes-Benz EQT price and release date
New Mercedes-Benz EQT prices have not yet officially been revealed. In Europe, the firm has said they will start from around €49,000, which equates to around £42,000 in the UK. They are expected to be confirmed soon, as the new Mercedes-Benz EQT online configurator is released to those looking to buy or lease the new EV.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT will start arriving in showrooms in the first half of 2023. Later in the year, the company will also release a production version of its innovative Concept EQT Marco Polo electric micro camper van.
New Mercedes-Benz EQT: exterior and interior
The Mercedes-Benz EQT is closely related to the Mercedes-Benz T-Class, which was launched earlier in 2022 as a passenger-friendly version of the Mercedes-Benz Citan van. The design is similar, but the new Mercedes-Benz EQT features a smart gloss black panel that visually links it to other members of the Mercedes-EQ electric car family.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT has a clean, modern profile that’s more stylish than some small van-based MPVs. All models feature LED daytime running lights with a distinctive pattern, and LED headlights are optionally available. 16-inch wheels are standard, with 17-inch alloys optional. Those buying or leasing the new Mercedes-Benz EQT will be able to choose from 10 paint colours, six of which are metallic.
Inside, the new Mercedes-Benz EQT has a commanding feel with a generous dashboard that gives an MPV-like feel behind the wheel. Set within dual analogue instruments is a 5.5-inch colour driver display, with a 7.0-inch MBUX infotainment display in the centre of the dashboard – complete with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant is available as an option.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT has a premium feel inside. There’s a swish high-gloss panel on the dashboard, and posh Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel. Seats are finished in black Norwich fabric with grey honeycomb; there’s a centre armrest in Artico man-made leather, while the door armrests and centre panels are made from Neotex, a futuristic material that has the appearance of nubuck leather.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT has twin sliding rear doors, which make accessing the rear seats very easy. They open 614mm wide and more than 1 metre tall, so they’re genuinely ‘walk-in’ (and easy to use in tight car parks). The rear seat bench is wide and accommodating for three people – and there is room for up to three child seats on the rear bench. Mercedes-Benz adds rear seat access is convenient from three sides, including the tailgate.
A commodious 551-litre boot features in the new Mercedes-Benz EQT, even with the rear seats up. Fold them flat and this expands to a vast 1,979 litres. The loading sill is low too, at just 561mm, so it’s easier to haul in heavy items. Boot space is generous because the new Mercedes-Benz EQT’s electric battery is mounted underneath the floor.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT measures just under 4.5 metres long, meaning it will be as easy to drive in town as a regular family hatchback. It is 1,859mm wide and a healthy 1,819mm tall – this height means it feels really light and airy inside. There are even aircraft-style overhead storage bins, plus loads of cubbies and stowage shelves. There are four USB ports scattered through the interior and an optional wireless smartphone charging pad.
New Mercedes-Benz EQT: engines and gearboxes
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT premium electric van-based small MPV launches with a single 122PS EV powertrain. The company has not quoted acceleration figures, but revealed the setup will have a top speed limited to 83mph, in the interests of maximising range.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQT will launch with a single 45kWh battery option. This will give an EV driving range of 175 miles. Crucially, it has 80kW DC rapid-charging functionality. Find a public charger fast enough, and it will charge from 10% to 80% in just 38 minutes.
Charging the new Mercedes-Benz EQT is done through a charge point hidden behind the Mercedes star on the front grille. The company says this is particularly practical when charging in congested cities and tight charging bays. Those buying or leasing the new Mercedes-Benz EQT also get access to the Mercedes me Charge network of public chargers – one of the largest such networks in Europe.
Find a used electric Mercedes-Benz for sale
If you’re keen on the idea of a family-friendly electric Mercedes-Benz but can’t wait for the new Mercedes-Benz EQT, perhaps you might consider a used Mercedes-Benz B-Class electric instead?
The B250e was one of the firm’s first EVs, and 2017 models can today be purchased from around £20,000. The range of around 125 miles isn’t as good as the new Mercedes-Benz EQT, but it might still be ample for those who drive mainly in town – and the £30,000 price saving is not to be sniffed at…
