VW teases all-new T-Roc

Written By Phill Tromans

2026 Volkswagen T-Roc

Under the gaudy graphics, this is Volkswagen's all-new compact SUV, the T-Roc.

Replacing the current T-Roc, which was first introduced back in 2018, the all-new model looks to continue the recipe that has made the existing car exceedingly popular, with a similar look and general design features. VW bosses have already admitted that there's no need for a revolution with the T-Roc, which is slightly bigger than the Volkswagen Golf but smaller than the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The new T-Roc will be the last all-new VW to go on sale with internal combustion power, as the company intends to transition to production of only electric vehicles. We'll see the car in full at the Munich Motor Show in September, which will give us a better understanding of what will face rivals like the Kia Niro, the Ford Puma, the Hyundai Kona and more.

New 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc: price and release date

No prices or release date have yet been announced for the new T-Roc. We'll likely find out more after its full review at the Munich Motor Show in September.

We've only the one picture of the new T-Roc so far – here's the outgoing model for comparison.

New 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc: exterior and interior

We've only seen the disguised image at the top of the page thus far, so much of the new T-Roc's design is unknown save for unverified leaked images flying around the internet. However, the information release so far tells us that the new car will share much with its ancester, with the same arching roofline and big rear C-pillar, SUV-style wheel arches and a front end that will like bear more than a passing resemblance to the latest VW Tiguan and Tayron.

The underpinnings (the MQB Evo platform, for all you tech-heads) are the same as those found on the latest Volkswagen Golf.

No official images of or information about the interior have been released yet.

Volkswagen Tayron review: interior view
Could the interior of the new T-Roc be similar to that of the Tayron, above? We'll have to wait and see.

New 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc: engines and gearboxes

Full details of the new T-Roc's powertrains have yet to be released, but we do know that it'll have a choice of hybrids – mild-hybrid petrol engines, at least one full hybrid and a plug-in hybrid option, too.

The full-hybrid options will be all-new, letting drive on electric power only around town for short periods. We don't yet know more details than that.
