New Toyota RAV4 revealed

2026 Toyota RAV4

Toyota has pulled the covers off the all-new sixth-generation RAV4 SUV.

WIth more than 15 million RAV4s sold since its introduction in 1994 – and 2.5 million in Europe – the arrival of a model is big news. The Toyota RAV4 will be available with plug-in hybrid tech that promises 62 miles of electric-only driving, with faster charging than the previous version. A full-hybrid version is also being made, but we don't expect that to be sold in the UK.

Toyota has revised the car's styling with a more rugged, chunky look compared to the existing RAV4. It's also introduced a brand-new infotainment system, as well as introducing new safety features, and there'll be a sporty model for a more exciting driving experience.

No release date has been announced yet, but when the new Toyota RAV4 touches down it'll take on a wealth of mid-size SUVs, including the Honda CR-V, the Kia Sportage, the Volkswagen Tiguan and many more.

New 2026 Toyota RAV4: price and release date

No information about price or release date has yet been made available. We'd expect a UK release in the first half of 2026. A price starting at around £45,000 seems likely, which would represent a slight rise over the existing model.

New 2026 Toyota RAV4: exterior and interior

The new Toyota RAV4 eschews the sleek, coupe-like silhouette of some other family SUVs in favour of a more pratical shape with a rugged, powerful look. Toyota says it projects "sophistication in the city and capable performance off-road". The Toyota RAV4 GR Sport version has wider track and black 20-inch alloy wheels, with a different grille and GR badging.

As for the interior, the dash features large 12.9-inch central touchscreen with a 12.3-inch digital driver's display and a head-up display that will at least be optional, if not standard. THE GR SPort version has a black finish with red accents and a synthetic leather and suede upholstery.

With practicality at the forefront, expect lots of storage areas and a decent-sized boot.

Toyota is using a new software platform called Arene, which is says will expand the ability to update cars over the air, with a particular focus on infotainment safety features. The safety features, bundled together under the Toyota Safety Sense name, include enhanced versions of Lane Change Assist, which works with adaptive cruise control, and the Pre-Collision System, which can now better recognise obstacles including bicycles and motorbikes.

The new interior has a large central touchscreen and a digital driver display.

New 2026 Toyota RAV4: engines and gearboxes

Two powertrains have been developed for the new Toyota RAV4, although we expect only the plug-in hybrids to come to the UK.

They use a new 22.7kWh battery to give it an electric range of up to 62 miles, and with a 50kW DC charger on board they can fast charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. An 11kW AC charger is also included, which Toyota says is twice as fast as its predecessor and will give the same charge in around three hours.

Both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) models will be available. The FWD model – called the RAV4 Plug-in 270 – has 268PS, while the AWD model has 304PS, which gives it a sprightly 0-62mph acceleration time of 5.8 seconds.

The full-hybrid system, which will be sold in Europe, has 191PS with AWD or 183PS in FWD.
