The performance version of Hyundai's Ioniq 6 electric saloon has been given its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is a highly anticipated hot new EV, followingin the footsteps of the acclaimed Ioniq 5 N. Rather than being another SUV, the Ioniq 6 N is based on the standard Ioniq 6 saloon.

Developed to drive both on road and on track, and fitted with a dedicated Drift mode, the Ioniq 6 N follows the formula of the 5 N to have some serious power, massively upgraded handling and beefed up looks to match. With 650PS and a 0-62mph time of just 3.2 seconds, it should prove a serious rival to higher-end Tesla Model 3s, the Polestar 2 and the BMW i4.

Hyundai says the new car will embody the N brands "three core performance pillars – Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability and Everyday Sports Car" which should give you an idea of the vibe it's going for.

New 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: price and release date

No details about price or release date have been announced yet, but we'd expect it to cost slightly less than the Ioniq 5 N, which is a shade over £65,000, and arrive in the UK towards the end of the year.

New 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: exterior and interior

Visually, the Ioniq 6 N follows the philosophy of the Ioniq 5 N – take the standard car and beef it up considerably. A large rear wing and big flared arches combine with a wider stance for better cornering, and there's a whole new suspension system with electronically controlled dampers.

There's a new paint colour, too – Performance Blue Pearl, which adds a pearlescent look to the signature Performance Blue found on other Hyundai N cars. The 20-inch alloy wheels are likely considerably lighter than on the standard car, although that's not been confirmed, but they houselarger brakes and are clad in Pirelli P-Zero performance tyres. An N badge sits under the pixel-style rear light at the back.

Inside, there's an understandable focus on the driver, with various upgrades that include an interior lighting system to indicate shift points, syncing with the car's N e-shift function – more on that below. There's also a feature called N Track manager that lets you play around real-time ghost car visuals when you're chasing a lap time, as well as driving and performance analysis. Synthetic engine sounds provide some aural drama if the whine of an electric motor isn't enough for you.

New 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: motor and battery

The Ioniq 6 N uses the same 650PS all-wheel-drive, dual-motor powertrain found in the Ioniq 5 N. That means very serious performance, with a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds. Most of the time, the powertrain puts out 609PS, but there's a boost function – called N Grin – that extracts the maximum 650PS for 10 seconds.

Other features include the N e-Shift, which aims to recreate the feeling of traditional gears, the N Active Sound +, which recreates combustion engine sounds, futuristic sci-fi-style noises and various other options, the N Drift Optimizer for fine-tuning the amount of slide the various traction control settings allow, and various energy regeneration levels that adjust the braking.

The battery is a 84kWh unit with fast charging up to 350kW, which allows a 10% to 80% recharge in around 18 minutes with a suitable charger.
