Fiat prepares for new 500 Hybrid production

2026 Fiat 500 Hybrid

The new hybrid version of Fiat's latest 500 will start production in November.

The new car Fiat 500 Hybrid is based on the Fiat 500 Electric, but will feature a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain with a six-speed manual gearbox. Fiat has confirmed that the hatchback and Cabrio models will both come to the UK.

Fitting a petrol engine into a car designed from the ground-up as an electric vehicle is highly unusual, but with production of the old Fiat 500 now finished, the new 500 Hybrid will fill a gap in Fiat's portfolio. It'll also be a rival to city cars like the Hyundai i10, the Kia Picanto, the Toyota Aygo X and more.

The exterior of the new Fiat 500 Hybrid is, unsurprisingly, almost exactly the same as the current Fiat 500 Electric, albeit with a revised grille.

Inside, the headline is the presence of a six-speed manual gearbox, and a dashboard that's different to the current 500 Electric, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen running Fiat's Uconnect 5 system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The general retro vibe is retained, however. Therte's a seven-inch digital display behind the steering wheel.

The Fiat 500 Hybrid uses the 1.0-litre mild-hybrid system used in the previous 500 and in the Fiat Panda, which is attached to a six-speed manual gearbox. Power figures haven't been confirmed yet, although in the Panda it had 70PS, and a similar amount seems likely.
