Fiat teases new 500 Hybrid

2026 Fiat 500 Hybrid

Fiat has released the first photos of the new hybrid version of its electric city car.

The new car, which is beginning pre-production in Fiat's Turin factory, is based on the Fiat 500 Electric, but will feature a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Fitting a petrol engine into a car designed from the ground-up as an electric vehicle is highly unusual, but with production of the old Fiat 500 now finished, the new 500 Hybrid will fill a gap in Fiat's portfolio. It'll also be a rival to city cars like the Hyundai i10, the Kia Picanto, the Toyota Aygo X and more.

New 2026 Fiat 500 Hybrid: price and release date

Production of the Fiat 500 Hybrid is due to start in November of this year, so we'd expect the first cars to arrive in the UK at the start of 2026. No pricing has yet been announced.

New 2026 Fiat 500 Hybrid: exterior and interior

The exterior of the new Fiat 500 Hybrid is, unsurprisingly, almost exactly the same as the current Fiat 500 Electric. The grille would appear to be different, but it's disguised in the official photos so we'll have to wait and see what it looks like in real life.

Inside, the headline is the presence of a six-speed manual gearbox, and a dashboard that's different to the current 500 Electric, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen. With the rest of the interior covered up, we'll await a fuller reveal.

The back of the new 500 Hybrid will look very familiar to fans of the 500 Electric.

New 2026 Fiat 500 Hybrid: engines and gearboxes

Fiat has yet to confirm which powertrain it will use in the new Fiat 500 Hybrid, other than that it will be... well, a hybrid. Fiat, through parent company Stellantis, has access to a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid system that allows limited electric-only driving, but that has hitherto only come with an automatic gearbox. An alternative could be the 1.0-litre mild-hybrid system used in the previous 500 and in the Fiat Panda.
