2025 Kia PV5

Kia's all-new van-based electric MPV goes on sale next month.

Called the Kia PV5, it's a battery-powered people carrier with five seats – at least for now – and a range of up to 249 miles on a single charge. Based on the PV5 van, and technically known as the PV5 Passenger, it promises loads of interior space, a huge boot, modular flexibility (the ability to move stuff around within the passenger compartment) and a choice of two batteries – standard range and long range.

There'll also be a choice of two trims – Essential and Plus. It'll count as its rivals the likes of the Citroen e-Berlingo, Peugeot e-Rifter, Vauxhall Combo Life Electric and the much more expensive Volkswagen ID.Buzz. We're expecting a seven-seater version in the future, which will be an alternative to big SUVs.

New 2025 Kia PV5: price and release date

The order books for the new Kia PV5 open on 1 May with the first deliveries expected late in 2025. Prices start at £32,995 for the Essential trim with the smaller of the two battery options, while prices for the long-range model will be announced later.

New 2025 Kia PV5: exterior and interior

The PV5 is a van-based MPV rather than a car, which means a boxy shape and loads of interior space. The design is therefore functional with a few stylistic flairs to keep things interesting, such as the headlights that rises up into the A-pillar and the black cladding around the wheel arches and side sills.

All UK-spec PV5s will have LED healdights, daytime running lights and rear lights as standard, with tinted windows and manual dual sliding doors to give you easy access to the cabin. Essential models ride on 16-inch steel wheels, while the Plus model upgrades to 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the PV5 has a minimalist but practical design that prioritises space, versatility and comfort. The electric platform – called E-GMP.S – means it has a completely flat floor that should give passengers loads of legroom and headroom across both rows of seats, with high-mounted seats and a spacious, airy environment. There are various storage features, including under-seat trays, seatback pockets and a centre console box.

The PV5 Passenger comes, initiallt, with five seats. The back seats fold in a 60:40 split for a flexibiility between passenger space and luggage capacity, although the latter is considerable even with all the seats in place – 1320 litres will expand to 2315 if you fold the second row flat.

Tech matters are dealt with through a 12.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 7.5-inch digital driver display behind the steering wheel. The Plus model also gets Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, which lets you plug in appliances through a three-pin socket.

The PV5 is only available as a five-seater initially, but a seven-seater will follow.

New 2025 Kia PV5: motors and batteries

There will be two battery packs in the PV5 to cater for different needs and budgets. There's a 51.5kWh option, paired with a 120PS, 250Nm electric motor for a 0-62mph time of 12.8 seconds, or a long-range 71.2kWh unit with a 163PS motor (also with 250Nm) and a 0-62mph time of 10.7 seconds.

The standard-range battery will give a range of up to 179 miles on a full charge, while the long-range version priomises up to 249 miles.

Both battery options support 400V fast charging, which means the PV5 can top up from 10% to 80% capacity in less than 30 minutes using a 150kW fast charger.

There are sliding side doors on the PV5 for ease of access.

New 2025 Kia PV5: trim levels

Two trim levels have been announced. The entry-level Essential trim will be available with either powertrain, and features automatic air-conditioning, cloth upolstery and manual front seat adjustment.

The flashier Plus model is available only with the long-range powertrain, and has alloy wheels, electric folding mirrors, a powered tailgate and electrically adjusted front seats, which are heated and have extra lumbar support. The steering wheel is also heated, and a wireless phone charger is included as standard.

The Plus model also gets some extra safety features, including a blind-spot warning system, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance and a Safe Exit warning system.
