After much fuss over a controversial teaser advert, Jaguar has revealed its new concept car – the Type 00.
Designed to showcase the future all-electric, high-end future of the classic British brand, the Type 00 (pronounced Type Zero Zero) is a bold with some eye-catching features, and it heralds the introduction of a production four-door GT car in late 2025. Expect the production car to share many features of the Type 00, including its long bonnet, low ride height and very large wheels.
Jaguar claims that the Type 00, which was unveiled at Miami Art Week in the USA, is "an example of Jaguar at its best" and represents "a fearless statement" about its future.
The reinvention of Jaguar follows years of declining sales. It isn't currently selling any cars while it revamps its range to position itself as a high-end manufacturer. While its rebrand has irked many existing Jaguar customers, the company has been unapologetic about its change of direction. "We don't want to appeal to everyone," said Gerry McGovern, the chief creative officer for Jag's parent company Jaguar Land Rover.
New 2025 Jaguar Type 00: price and release date
The Type 00 itself won't go on sale, but a four-door GT car that shares many of its design features will. We can expect to see that revealed late in 2025. No firm specs or prices have been revealed as yet, but don't expect it to be cheap; Jaguar is setting itself up as a proper luxury manufacturer, with prices to match. A starting price of around £125,000 seems likely. It'll offer an alternative to cars lilke the Porsche Taycan and the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
New 2025 Jaguar Type 00: exterior and interior
Revealed in two colours – London Blue and Miami Pink – the Jaguar Type 00 is a large electric coupe, with a fastback silhouette, a long bonnet and big 23-inch wheels with Jag's new "monogram" badge mounted in the centre. The press release for the car includes words like "exhuberant", "modernist" and "compelling", which gives us an idea of how Jaguar envisages its future.
At the front there are upright and flush surfaces with the new Jaguar font on the grille – or at least, the grill-like surface where a grille would normally be. At the side, brass ingot with the revised Jaguar Leaper logo stand out, and house pop-out rear-view cameras. At the back there's no rear window, with full-width rear lights sitting between massive rear arches.
Inside the rising butterfly-style doors, there's a brass "spine" running down the centre of the interior, and two large widescreens that can fold away into the dashboard.
New 2025 Jaguar Type 00: motors and batteries
Details of what powers the Type 00 haven't been announced, but Jaguar says the production four-door car will have a range of up to 478 miles on a single battery charge, and will be able to add up to 200 miles of range in as little as 15 minutes when rapid charging. It'll be built on a new platform called Jaguar Electrical Architecture.
