What would happen if you took an electric city car and... well, went a bit wild with it?

Presenting the Hyundai Insteroid – a name that combines the new Hyundai Inster and "steroid" to create a video-game inspired concept car with a lot of added muscle. The car was revealed ahead of the Seoul Mobility Show in Hyundai's native South Korea.

Hyundai's design that takes the standard Inster and adds some serious upgrades, from a big rear wing to huge 21-inch wheels, along with a stripped-out, motorsport-like interior. Oh, and it's got a drift mode.

Why? Well, why not?

New 2025 Hyundai Insteroid: price and release date

There are no plans to release the Hyundai Insteroid as a production car – at least, none that Hyundai is letting on about. The Korean firm calls it a "What If?" project, a one-of-a-kind concept car that shows off the breadth of vision of its design team. We can't help wonder, though – could it herald some kind of miniature version of the Ioniq 5 N?

New 2025 Hyundai Insteroid: exterior and interior

The Hyundai Insteroid is game-inspired by way of motorsport, and for all its wild looks it uses a fairly familiar recipe. The standard Insteroid has been given wide, vented arches, filled with big 21-inch wheels. A huge rear wing sits at the back, above a diffuser for improved aero performance.

Inside, the Insteroid is stripped back with a roll cage, lightweight structural elements and bespoke instrument cluster, although the sound system has not only been left in, it's been upgraded to a Beat House system with a messaging facility to "enable personalised interaction, furthering driver engagement" – whatever that means.

The interior is stripped out with a bespoke instrument display.

New 2025 Hyundai Insteroid: motor and battery

We have no idea if the Insteroid has any significant upgrade over the standard Inster's top-spec 115PS engine and 49kWh battery, because Hyundai hasn't talked about the powertrain. We would hope that the wild looks would attract some wild electric tuning too, should the Insteroid ever progress beyond a static concept.
