Ford has revealed an all-electric version of its small SUV, called the Puma Gen-E.

The current Puma has been on sale since 2019, but is currently only available with a mild-hybrid drivetrain. The new electric model has a range of up to 233 miles and will arrive in the Spring of 2025.

Ford says the new Puma Gen-E will keep the standard Puma's fun-to-drive character; indeed, it says its "essence" will be more akin to the Puma ST, with quicker steering response than the standard Puma and a 0-62mph time of 8.0 seconds. It'll be alongside the petrol-powered model at Ford's plant in Romania.

When it arrives, the Ford Puma Gen-E will be a rival to small electric SUVs like the Jeep Avenger Electric, Hyundai Kona Electric, Peugeot E-2008, Mini Aceman and more.

New 2025 Ford Puma Gen-E: price and release date

Prices for the Ford Puma Gen-E start at £29,995, which is just over £3500 more than the entry-level version of the standard Puma (although if you select a petrol Puma with an automatic gearbox, that gap drops to around £2000). The top-spec Premium model costs from £31,995.

Orders are open now, with the first deliveries in the Spring of 2025.

New 2025 Ford Puma Gen-E: exterior and interior

The new Ford Puma Gen-E is immediately identifiable as a Puma from the outside, with most features carried over from the standard car. However, the front end grille takes cues from the larger Mustang Mach-E, and there are no exhaust pipes at the back. It rides on 17-inch or 18-inch wheels, depending on trim.

The interior is also very similar to the standard Puma, with a wide driver display and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen that features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Amazon Alexa. A new raised centre console addes extra storage with a sliding armrest and wireless phone charging.

Storage-wise, the under-floor MegaBox boot feature of the standard Puma has been expanded to what Ford calls the GigaBox. That means the Puma Gen-E has an increased boot space of 574 litres, which is very large for this type of car. That's as well as a 43-litre "frunk" space under the bonnet.

Power in the front-wheel-drive Puma Gen-E comes from a 168PS motor and a 43kWh (usable) battery. That translates to an 8.0-second 0-62mph time and a range of up to 233 miles according to official figures. The battery can be recharged at up to 100kW with a suitable charger, and a 10%-80% battery top-up will take around 23 minutes.

New 2025 Ford Puma Gen-E: trim levels

To keep things simple, Ford has announced just two trim levels for the Puma Gen-E. The standard trim rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and has a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors as standard, with a six-speaker audio system.

The Puma Gen-E Premium adds 18-inch wheels with 19-inch versions available as an option, along with matrix LED headlights and power folding mirrors. There's a powered boot lid and synthetic leather upholstery, as well as a B&O sound system with 10 speakers. Keyless entry is included, too.

Options include an openable panoramic roof, a winter pack with heated front seats, windscreen and steering wheel, and a detachable towbar. Standard Gen-E customers can also spec the Comfort pack, which adds the power foldable mirrors, keyless entry and hands-free boot lid.
