Chinese manufacturer Chery has announced prices for its new seven-seat SUV, the Tiggo 8.
With a starting price of just £28,545, the Chery Tiggo 8 dramatically undercuts many of its seven-seat rivals, including the Skoda Kodiaq (starting at £39,000), the Kia Sorento (£41,260) and the Peugeot 5008 (£39,890).
Although new to the UK market, Chery is one of China's largest automotive brands, producing more than 2.6 million vehicles in 2024. It's also the parent company of two other new Chinese brands to the UK – Omoda and Jaecoo.
The Tiggo 8 is available in two trims, with petrol power or as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a 56-mile electric-only range. It promises lots of interior space and an impressive array of standard features, especially considering the price. A seven-year, 100,000-mileage warranty is also very appealing.
New 2025 Chery Tiggo 8: price and release date
The Chery Tiggo 8 is on sale now, with deliveries due to start from 1 September. Prices start at £28,545 for the petrol-powered 1.6-litre TDGI in entry-level Aspire trim, rising to £31,545 for the top-spec Summit trim. The Super Hybrid PHEV model costs £33,545 for the Aspire model or £36,545 for the Summit.

New 2025 Chery Tiggo 8: exterior and interior
Chery has gone for a relatively conservative exterior design, one that appears to go for a classy vibe rather than futuristic or sporty. It's a mid-size SUV, 4725mm long and 2089mm wide with a height of 1860mm, making it a touch smaller than the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008. All versions have LED headlights and ride on 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, there's wireless phone charging at up to 50W as standard, with an infotainment system with a 15.6-inch centre display that features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are three rows of seats with two at the back. Boot space in the petrol version is quoted at 494 litres, expandable to 1930 litres with the back seats folded down. There's no information yet on the size of the boot in the Super Hybrid model – some PHEVs have smaller capacity because of the need to carry batteries.

New 2025 Chery Tiggo 8: engines and gearboxes
The Chery Tiggo 8 comes with either a pure petrol engine, or a plug-in hybrid system badged as Super Hybrid.
The petrol model, known as the Turbocharged Direct Gasoline Injection or TDGI, is a 1.6-litre unit with 147PS and 275Nm of torque, which translates to a 0-62mph acceleration time in a leisurely 9.8 seconds. The official fuel economy is 36.2mpg.
The Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid has a 1.5-litre engine and 18.4kWh battery that gives it an electric-only range of up to 56 miles when fully charged. It has better acceleration, too, thanks to 204PS of power – the benchmark 62mph comes up in 8.5 seconds, and it promises a fuel economy of 235mpg, although as with all PHEVs, real-world figures will heavily depend on how the car is used.

New 2025 Chery Tiggo 8: trim levels
There are two trim levels on the Chery Tiggo 8 – Aspire and Summit.
Aspire models come with 19-inch wheels and a six-way power adjustable driver's seat, as well as a 540-degree panoramic camera system.
The Summit model adds a powered sunroof and an electrically operated boot lid, LED-illuminated side sills and electrical adjustment for the front passenger seat. Both the first and second-row seats are heated and ventilated, and the steering wheel is heated, too. The front seats have a massage function. There's also a head-up display to project driving information onto the windscreen, and a 12-speaker Sony sound system.
Standard safety and driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control and various collision-warning and rear cross-traffic alert systems.
