Audi has drawn back the covers on the all-new A6 Avant, with sales starting from 1 April.

A longstanding favourite among those seeking a stylish, understated, and highly practical premium car, the Audi A6 Avant remains a compelling choice despite the growing dominance of SUVs. The all-new model builds on its predecessors' renowned sophistication and spaciousness, now enhanced with a sportier design and cutting-edge technology.

Available in three trims at launch and with two engines initially, the range will be expanded over time, and a saloon version will follow soon, too.

The new Audi A6 Avant will continue its long-running rivalry with cars like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and the BMW 5 Series Touring.

New 2025 Audi A6 Avant: price and release date

The new Audi A6 Avant goes on sale from 1 April with the first deliveries expected in mid-June. Prices start at £52,510 for the petrol-powered TFSI 204PS Sport model, rising to £55,310 for the S line trim and £60,210 for the Edition 1 model. Diesel models, badged as the Audi A6 Avant TDI, start at £56,780 for the Sport model, £59,580 for the S line and £64,480 for the Edition 1.

New 2025 Audi A6 Avant: exterior and interior

The new Audi A6 has a new, dynamic look with scupted lines, big wheels and a long wheelbase, although Audi has tried to retain an element of elegance, too. There are new, sleek headlights and a low grille, with a rear spoiler above the boot and a full-width light strip at the back above a large rear diffuser. LED daytime running lights, made up of 48 individual LEDs per light, are standard, with seven different signatures (patterns) that you can customise to your own liking.

There are 10 paint colours to choose from, including the solid Arkona White and various metallic options, including Glacier White, Mythos Black and Midnight Green. The alloy wheels come in various designs in sizes from 18 inches to 21 inches.

The interior promises the same top-quality materials we've come to expect from Audi, and some cutting edge tech. The headline attraction is what Audi calls the "digital stage", comprising the Audi MMI infotainment system's curved panoramic display, an optional 10.9-inch passenger display that's available on the Edition 1 trim and an optional head-up display that projects driving and infotainment onto the windscreen.

Materials-wise, sustainable fabrics like Cascade and Dinamica are made largely from recycled polyester. There's contoured lighting along the dashboard and doors, and an optional panoramic glass roof as well as four-zone climate control.

The latest Audi MMI infotainment system runs on Android Automotive. While Audi hasn't confirmed that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be included for phone connectivity, we expect that they will.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, parking sensors and lane-departure warning, as well as cross-traffic assist, automatic emergency braking and a digital key feature, which lets you access the car using a mobile phone.

The boot has a 503-litre capacity and the back seats can fold in a 40:20:40 split to increase the luggage capacity to 1534 litres. A rail system in the boot, with a partition net as standard, should help improve its versatility.

The interior is dominated by a curved panoramic display, with an optional extra display for the passenger.

New 2025 Audi A6 Avant: engines and gearboxes

Two engine options are available to start with – one petrol and one diesel – but more will follow. The diesel option is a 2.0-litre TDI unit that delivers a total of 204PS and 400Nm, with Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system and a dual-clutch automatic transmission. That's enough for a 7.0-second 0-62mph acceleration time and a top speed of 148mph.

The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre TFSI that also has 204PS, with 340Nm. Unlike the diesel, it's front-wheel-drive only. It'll manage the 0-62mph sprint in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.

Exact fuel economy figures for either engine has yet to be confirmed. Both units use mild-hybrid tech, which is more powerful than before with up to 24PS and 230Nm, which can power the car on its own at low speeds.

A range of plug-in hybrid options are planned for the future, and there will also be high-powered S6 and RS 6 models.

Audi has gone for a more dynamic, sporty look for the latest A6 Avant, while retaining a level of elegance.

New 2025 Audi A6 Avant: trim levels

Three trim levels have been announced for the new Audi A6 Avant – Sport, S line and Edition 1.

The Sport trim features five-spoke, 18-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, and standard suspension, as well as aluminium roof rails. Inside, the seats are clad in twin leather upholstery and there's a 10-speaker sound system, as well as four-zone air conditioning.

The S line trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels and Sport suspension, which is 20mm lower and is designed to enhance the A6's handling. The bodywork has a more dynamic look, while inside there are more supportive sports seats, matt aluminium inlays and stainless steel pedals, as well as a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The top-spec Edition 1 model has 20-inch wheels and black exterior styling elements, including the roof rails, with red brake callipers. The seats are upholstered in leather and Dinamica microfibre.
