The new Tesla Cybertruck is an all-electric pickup truck like no other, which is finally now being delivered to lucky customers who were first in the queue.
The distinctive, dramatic new Tesla Cybertruck copies no pickup truck rival and is more like a machine you’d use to drive on the moon. But it’s not just for show, because this is a highly capable pickup truck beneath the surface, too.
The launch event even showed how unexpectedly fast the new Tesla Cybertruck is – with a video of it beating a Porsche 911 sports car in a drag race… while towing a Porsche 911.
The new Tesla Cybertruck is a direct rival to the EV version of America’s best-selling vehicle, the Ford F-150 Lightning. Over here, it is a top-end alternative to familiar models such as the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Amarok.
New 2024 Tesla Cybertruck: price and release date
In America, the new Tesla Cybertruck has been launched in two guises, either an all-wheel drive version or high-performance, tri-motor derivative called Cyberbeast.
The new Tesla Cybertruck twin-motor all-wheel drive costs from $79,990 in America, which is around £63,500 here in the UK. The Tesla Cyberbeast costs from $99,990, or around £79,500.
In 2025, boss Elon Musk says a more affordable rear-wheel drive Tesla Cybertruck will be launched.
However, it is not yet clear if the new Tesla Cybertruck will be launched in the UK. The American company is letting UK customers register to receive updates, but there remain question marks around whether this large, heavy, distinctive-looking pickup truck will legally be cleared for sale in the UK and Europe.
New 2024 Tesla Cybertruck: exterior and interior
The new Tesla Cybertruck is distinctive, alright. If someone were to draw a car of the future, this may well be what they’d come up with. No other car uses straight lines and sharp angles in this way – so much so, the radius of some lines might not actually pass European road safety laws.
Unique design touches on the new Tesla Cybertruck include the flush-fit windscreen and a single windscreen wiper, which helps deliver a slippery aerodynamic Cd drag factor of 0.34. This is very impressive indeed for a bluff-fronted pickup truck.
The new Tesla Cybertruck is made from an all-new, ultra-hard stainless steel alloy developed by Tesla. It is used unpainted, as with the classic DeLorean from the film Back To The Future, and is both bulletproof and dent-resistant.
The new Tesla Cybertruck’s stainless steel construction forms a super-stiff exoskeleton that Elon Musk says gives it more torsional stiffness than the McLaren P1 hypercar. This unique construction is why ramping up new Tesla Cybertruck construction has taken so long.
Armoured glass is also available, which will withstand a baseball hitting the side window of the new Tesla Cybertruck at speeds of up to 70mph. The glass is also acoustic, which makes it quieter inside.
The new Tesla Cybertruck is extremely large – and if it was launched here in the UK, it would be one of the largest new cars on sale. At almost 5.7 metres long and 2.2 metres wide, the new Tesla Cybertruck is significantly longer and wider than a Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
The new Tesla Cybertruck’s’ rear deck is called the ‘vault’. It takes loads of nearly two metres long, and the secure, covered bay can take a payload of 1134kg. There is additional stowage in a ‘frunk’, with a remarkable 1897 litres of lockable stowage within the exoskeleton. The new Telsa Cybertruck has a total stowage space of 3423 litres.
Inside, the new Tesla Cybertruck has a minimalist look that stays true to the original concept car. It is dominated by an 18.5-inch centre ‘infinity’ touchscreen, and there is an additional 9.4-inch touchscreen for rear seat passengers. Ambient LED lighting also features, as does a panoramic glass roof.
The new Tesla Cybertruck is available with “recording studio sound” through a 15-speaker stereo, and a hospital-grade HEPA filter removes up to 99.7% of airborne particulates. Perfect for driving on the moon.
New 2024 Tesla Cybertruck: range and performance
The new Tesla Cybertruck has, for a pickup, eye-opening performance. The twin-motor all-wheel drive version has 600PS, while the tri-motor Tesla Cyberbeast has almost 850PS.
It means the new Tesla Cybertruck all-wheel drive has 0-60mph performance that, at 4.1 seconds, is as fast as a bona fide sports car. The new Tesla Cyberbeast will, with 0-60mph taking just 2.6 seconds, leave them standing.
Battery size for the new Tesla Cybertruck isn’t quoted, but Tesla does say the all-wheel drive version will have a 340-mile range, and the new Tesla Cyberbeast will have a 320-mile range. All new Tesla Cybertruck have plug sockets to power tools and other items.
There will later be a single-motor new Tesla Cybertruck rear-wheel drive. This will have 0-60mph performance in around 6.5 seconds, and a smaller-capacity battery that will deliver a range of around 250 miles.
Due in 2025, the new Tesla Cybertruck RWD will reflect this with a more accessible price. By 2025, Elon Musk aims to be selling 250,000 new Tesla Cybertruck every year.
Interestingly, the new Tesla Cybertruck will optionally be available with an additional battery. This takes up part of the load bay, but extends the range to more than 440 miles.
The new Tesla Cybertruck is able to use the firm’s 250kW ‘Supercharger’ DC rapid chargers. This will deliver 128 miles’ range in 15 minutes. It is also able to use hyper-fast 1000kW chargers, which the Tesla Semi truck is ready to use as well.
Elon Musk promises huge capability for the new Tesla Cybertruck. It has all-round electronically-adaptive air suspension, for lots of suspension travel and a tremendous amount of ground clearance. It will have four-wheel steering for manoeuvrability, and steer-by-wire tech for additional tricks and abilities.
Find a used Tesla Model Y for sale
The Tesla Model Y was launched in 2022. It is a more practical hatchback version of the Tesla Model 3. While it doesn't quite have the carrying capacity (and dent-proof bodywork) of the new Tesla Cybertruck, it's still super-practical and family-friendly. Prices for used Tesla Model Y now start from under £40,000 for a 2022 Long Range model with less than 10,000 miles on the clock. Rear-wheel drive versions are even cheaper, and starting to get nearer £35,000.

The new Tesla Cybertruck is very big indeed – which may limit its ability to be sold in the UK. According to the company’s figures, it measures nearly 5.7 metres long, which is longer than even a Range Rover LWB. It is also nearly 2.2 metres wide – even with the door mirrors folded in.
The new Tesla Cybertruck is available with an innovative option – because the rear deck is so big, the company is selling an extra battery as an option, which will extend the range to over 440 miles. It is the first mainstream production vehicle to offer an optional additional battery.
The Tesla Cyberbeast is the range-topping tri-motor version of the new Tesla Cybertruck. This has around 850PS for Porsche 911-beating drag strip acceleration (while towing a Porsche 911…).
