2024 Ford E-Transit Courier: price, specs and release date

Written By Andy Brady

New Ford E-Transit Courier

The new 2024 Ford E-Transit Courier is a small electric van that previews the powertrain of the all-new Ford Puma EV.

Revealed alongside petrol and diesel versions of the new 2023 Ford Transit Courier, the compact electric van uses the same platform and powertrain as the next-generation Ford Puma. Technical details - including battery size and range - are yet to be confirmed, but it'll need to travel more than 170 miles between charges if it's to compete against the Citroen e-Berlingo and Toyota Proace City Electric.

Intended to appeal to small companies and bigger fleets looking for versatile urban transport, the new Ford E-Transit Courier will be the smallest and most affordable commercial vehicle in Ford's line-up. Its introduction follows the launch of the Ford E-Transit and E-Transit Custom.

New Ford E-Transit Courier charging
Although the Ford E-Transit Courier's range is yet to be confirmed, we know it'll be capable of 100kW DC fast charging - which means you'll be able to add 54 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes.

New 2024 Ford E-Transit Courier price and release date

Prices for the new Ford E-Transit Courier are yet to be confirmed. Expect it to command a premium over the current Ford Transit Courier which starts from £18,050 (excluding VAT) - a launch price in the region of £30,000 is likely. Deliveries will start in 2024.

If you're reluctant to wait for the all-electric Ford E-Transit Courier, the new petrol and diesel Ford Transit Courier can be ordered from summer 2023. The first customers will get their vans by the end of the year.

With its high belt line, upright grille and visor-like windscreen, there are clear similarities between the new Ford E-Transit Courier and recent Ford Explorer electric SUV (as well as the rugged Ford Ranger pick-up truck).

It's the inside that really impresses, though. Behind a 'squircle' steering wheel, you'll find a floating 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Alongside this is a large 12-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system.

Then there's a range of special features designed to make the E-Transit Courier's cabin more practical for van drivers. These include an optional foldaway flat surface which can be used to rest a laptop (turning the Courier into a mobile office), while the large centre console has configurable storage and removable elements for stowing away devices, clipboards and the like.

The 2024 Ford E-Transit Courier features a range of driver assistance systems, also intended to make life easier for the driver. These include cruise control, automatic high beam, front and rear parking sensors as well as a reversing camera. The optional driver assistance pack adds adaptive cruise control (with lane centring and stop & go), bling spot information with cross traffic alert, reverse brake assist and intersection assist.

Every Ford E-Transit Courier also comes with a built-in modem providing always-on connectivity.

New Ford E-Transit Courier load area
The Ford E-Transit Courier's loadbay has space for up to two Euro pallets.

New 2024 Ford E-Transit Courier: dimensions and versatility

A new, more flexible cargo area provides a 26% larger load area than the old Ford Transit Courier. A new suspension design means there's more space between the wheel arches - up to 1,220mm, in fact, meaning the Ford E-Transit Courier can carry two Euro pallets. The maximum payload for the all-electric van is 700kg, while it can tow up to 750kg.

Petrol and diesel Ford Transit Courier provide a payload of up to 678kg, while a High Payload option increases the maximum gross payload to 845kg. Maximum trailer weight is 1,100kg for diesel models and 1,000kg for petrol models.

While the 2.0m³ load volume is the same for Transit Courier and E-Transit Courier models, the electric version also comes with a useful 'frunk' in the front. This provides an extra 44 litre of stowage space - ideal for storing away charging cables.

A full-height steel bulkhead is standard on the Ford E-Transit Courier (and Transit Courier), while a mesh bulkhead window and load-through hatch are available as an optional extra.

Ford is yet to confirm the battery size or electric range of the E-Transit Courier. It has said, though, that it offers 100kW DC fast charging capability, meaning it'll add 54 miles of range in 10 minutes. An 11kW AC overnight home charge will take less than six hours.

The Ford E-Transit Courier is the smallest van in the Ford line-up. Despite this, it's very practical - with a wide between the rear wheel arches of 1,220mm. Total cargo volume is up 26% compared to the outgoing model, while the load-through bulkhead feature allows customers to carry items (such as planks or pipes) measuring more than 2,600mm long.
