Used Lexus NX for sale: everything you need to know

The Lexus NX is a premium SUV which ran from 2014 up to now meaning there are plenty of used options out there, each coming with that famous Lexus premium servicing.

The most common model you'll find out there in the used market is the hybrid version in the NX 300h, although there was a 200t petrol and an S variant that were around for a short time.

Unlike many other SUV options out there, this is a more narrow model. That's great for city and country road driving where space is tight, but it does mean you sacrifice some of the internal space and comfort that you might expect from an SUV. That said, it does have comfortable seats and the flat floor makes for plenty of legroom.

There were a fair few trim options and if you go for the higher end ones like the S Sport or Premier, you get features like head-up display, upgraded sound system, heated steering wheel and ventilated and heated front seats.

Expect the IS 300h hybrid to be an economical way to drive a larger car about town although once you hit the motorway this will start guzzling more and those savings look smaller.

Going for a model after 2018, when there was a facelift, means getting a larger 10.3-inch infotainment setup instead of the older 7-inch centre console, as well as upgraded sat nav. Just don't expect USB ports as standard in these older models.

Key rivals for the Lexus NX include the larger BMW X3 or the fun to drive and also much larger Audi Q5. Or for hybrid cars there's the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, or the versatile Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Should you buy a used Lexus NX?

The Lexus NX is a very luxurious SUV that offers the quality build of a Japanese manufacturer with a premium interior and that hybrid powertrain. Crucially, since Lexus was one of the hybrid pioneers, this is a way to get a hybrid car that's older and more affordable without scrimping on quality.

With reclining rear seats, lots of legroom and comfortable upholstery these are great for passengers as well as those sat up front. Although in the higher end trims the addition of heated and cooled front seats does give those up front the advantage on comfort.

The Lexus NX 200t is rare so seek that out if you specifically want the SUV space and brand styling with pure petrol drive power. More likely you'll find the Lexus NX 300h at better prices and offering a lot more trim variations in the used market.

Go for the basic trims and you can enjoy dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise, 17-inch alloys, an eight speaker audio system, electronic folding door mirrors, LED headlights and drive mode options.

Spend more and the options are broad with auto wipers, all wheel drive, privacy glass, parking sensors, electric seat adjustments and more.

Pick the 300h and you get a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid that will get you to 60 MPH in under ten seconds yet manages 64 MPG, all while offering luxury and space.

There are three trim options to pick from: S, Premium Sport Edition, F Sport and Takumi.

Expect a spacious boot of 525 litres and enough headroom and legroom for four large adults to ride comfortably. Add in a fifth and that lack of width will mean some shoulder to shoulder squeeze is required.

A Lexus NX not for you? We've got 1000s of used cars for sale to suit all budgets and needs.

What’s the best used Lexus NX model to buy?

The Lexus NX comes with that 200t option but that's only ideal if you want to find a rarer model and don't want a hybrid. Presuming you're looking at the far more common NX 300h you have several options to pick from.

The base level S comes with lots of kit making it very luxurious and with features like adaptive cruise control and LED headlights on newer models it really can be enough.

But if you want more then the Premium Sports Edition, or SE, gets you all-wheel drive that can be helpful in tougher weather but also for fuel economy. It also has automatic wipers and heated front seats – again making this better suited to dealing with varying weather conditions.

Go for the Luxury option if you want to add in privacy glass, electrically adjustable front seats and parking sensors to make life easier.

The F Sport model gives you a far more race-focused setup with sports seats, firmer suspension and an electrically operated tailgate.

At the top-end is the Premier model which adds an upgraded audio system setup, ventilation to those heated front seats, premium sat nav, all-around view cameras, heated steering wheel and driver assistance.

Used Lexus NX fuel economy and performance

  • Lexus NX 200t Sport 2.0-litre petrol: This four-cylinder 235 BHP engine gets you a lower 25 mpg but a 0-62 MPH time of just 7.1-seconds, although with 183 g/km CO2.
  • Lexus 300h 2.5-litre hybrid: This hybrid electric engine churns out 197 BHP for a 0-62 MPH time of 9.2 seconds but with 64 MPG and 161 g/km CO2.

What used Lexus NX trim levels are available?

The Lexus NX 300h has four trim levels available: S, Premium Sport Edition, Luxury, F Sport and Takumi.

  • The Lexus NX S is the entry-level trim, and is the most affordable to buy or lease. It’s available with an auto gearbox and features alloys.
  • The Lexus NX Premium Sport Edition is the mid-level trim, with more weather focus extras.
  • The Lexus NX Luxury adds privacy glass and parking smarts.
  • The Lexus NX F Sport is the most tuned model for speed, performance and handling as well as more sporting looks.
  • The Lexus NX Premier is the top-end with all the extras like driving assistance, all-around cameras and ventilated and heated front seats.

Lexus NX dimensions and boot size

The Lexus NX’s dimensions are:

  • Length: 4640mm
  • Width: 1845mm
  • Height: 1645mm

The Lexus NX’s boot size is:

  • 525 litres

Used Lexus NX road tax

The Lexus NX 300h is band H making it a flat £170 per year. Although the F Sport version jumps up to £560 in Band J. Go for the NX 200t and it'll be band J and between £320 and £570 annually.

How much is it to insure a Lexus NX?

The Lexus NX starts at insurance group 31 and goes up to 41 so expect prices to be high and more so for the top-end trims.
