New 2024 Porsche Macan: Price, specs and release date

Written By Richard Aucock

New 2024 Porsche Macan

The new Porsche Macan has made the switch to electric for the first time.

Arriving in the UK later in 2024, the new Porsche Macan electric SUV is offered from launch in two guises, each with plenty of power and sporty SUV style.

A generous range of up to 380 miles is promised from the standard fitment of a big battery to the new Porsche Macan.

After the pioneering Porsche Taycan, the new Porsche Macan is only the second all-electric Porsche. It arrives around the same time as another sporty electric SUV, the Polestar 4 – and both will take on the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace.

Other sporty electric SUVs include the Kia EV6 GT and Ford Mustang Mach-e GT. And for those who don’t want to go electric at all, the current Porsche Macan will remain on sale in petrol-powered form.

The new Porsche Macan configurator is open now for UK customers. The new Porsche Macan 4 costs £69,800 and the new Porsche Macan Turbo costs £95,000.

The new Porsche Macan will arrive in the UK in the second half of 2024.

The new Porsche Macan has an impressively high-tech, digital-first interior, but does still retain physical controls for air vents and heater dials.

New 2024 Porsche Macan: exterior and interior

The new Porsche Macan has a bold and sporty appearance. Compared to the outgoing model, it appears more lower-slung and coupe-like, with smooth curve intersected with sharp lines.

The new Porsche Macan’s designer is proud of the shallow pitch of the bonnet and the strongly-pronounced wings, which give it “a dynamic appearance even when stationary”. It has a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs, for a more athletic appearance, and has a taut, coupe-like rear.

The new Porsche Macan’s headlights are divided into two parts. The upper lights, smoothly integrated into the front wings, feature Porsche’s four-point LED daytime running lights. Below them sit the main LED lights with optional matrix LED technology.

The familiar, distinctive side blades of the previous Porsche Macan feature on the new electric model. Frameless doors add a sporty feel. The design is also very streamlined, helping it slip through the air smoothly to extend its EV range.

The new Porsche Macan measures 4784mm long, 1938mm wide and 1622mm tall. It also has large alloy wheels that can measure up to 22 inches.

The new Porsche Macan is roomy inside too, thanks to its optimised electric car platform. Front and rear seats are lower, for a more cocooning feel, while large windows still give plenty of light. There's more rear legroom and the boot now measures 540 litres – what's more, there’s now an additional ‘frunk’ or front luggage compartment, that holds 84 litres. Overall, it means the new Porsche Macan has 127 litres more boot space than the old model.

Those in the front seats of the new Porsche Macan enjoy a racy ambience thanks to the rising design of the centre console. The driver has a freestanding 12.6-inch digital curved display, and a 10.9-inch centre touchscreen that now runs on Android Automotive OS.

The infotainment system in the new Porsche Macan has a ‘Hey Porsche’ voice assistant, and can find suggested routes, including charging stops, ultra-quickly. There’s also a head-up display for the driver with augmented reality.

The new Porsche Macan offers an optional third display for the passenger. This can stream video content and users can even install third party apps – and clever screening technology means none of it will be visible to the driver.

The new Porsche Macan has an ambient lighting system built into the doors and the dashboard. This offers a welcoming feel at night – but can also flash safety alerts as it is connected to the new driver assist system. It will also communicate charging status when plugged in.

New 2024 Porsche Macan
The new Porsche Macan is offered in two guises from launch, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.

New 2024 Porsche Macan: engines and gearboxes

The new Porsche Macan is only available as an electric SUV. At launch, there are two versions, the new Porsche Macan 4 and new Porsche Macan Turbo.

Both new Porsche Macan models are all-wheel drive, with a two-motor setup. The Macan 4 produces a total of 408PS, for 0-62mph performance in 5.1 seconds. The Macan Turbo produces 639PS, for 0-62mph in just 3.3 seconds.

The new Porsche Macan has a large-capacity 100kWh battery. This gives an impressive 380-mile range in the Macan 4. Even the potent Macan Turbo has a 367-mile range.

The new Porsche Macan is based on an advanced all-new platform called Premium Platform Electric. This has an 800-volt architecture – which means the new Porsche Macan can charge really quickly. At a suitably powerful DC public charger, it can charge at speeds of up to 270kW.

This all sounds very scientific, but the reality is an ability to charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. The new Porsche Macan is also able to recuperate a lot of energy when driving, which should help with real-world range.

The new Porsche Macan has a sporty suspension setup even as standard, enhanced further by optional air suspension. This is standard on the new Porsche Macan Turbo – and includes advanced Porsche Active Suspension Management electronic damping. For drivers, this will give an even wider range between comfort and sportiness, at the press of a button.

The new Porsche Macan is also available with rear-wheel steering. This will give an ultra-tight turning circle in town, combined with greater stability when driving at speed.
