The Jaguar F-Pace is a stylish SUV that has an instantly recognisable exterior but boasts great drive appeal too. As you'd also expect from a Jaguar, the interior is a highlight, with sumptuous seating and lots of tech to keep occupants happy.
Considering it's an upright and quite bulky SUV, the Jaguar F-Pace offers great handling too, with plenty of power across the range of models topped with a petrol-powered V8 if fuel costs are of no concern. Alternatively, a plug-in hybrid can help keep bills down a little if it is a worry.
Later used models come with much better interiors, so cars from 2021 onwards are generally more desirable to own. At the same time, Jaguar also revised the engine line-up, hence the appearance of a plug-in while the handling stayed as impressive as it had always been.
Granted, there's no off-road appeal like you get from a Range Rover Velar, but if you're in need of a spacious SUV that can handle family members and luggage too, the Jaguar F-Pace is one to consider. Thanks to the incredibly comfortable interiors in these cars, you'll get to the end of your journey feeling rested and relaxed.
Other options if you're in the mood for a sporty SUV include the likes of the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 as well as the Porsche Macan.
If you're prepared to live with potential high-ish running costs there's lots to like about the Jaguar F-Pace. Used prices are actually very attractive and head in the direction of a Jaguar F-Pace HSE and you'll get an SUV that comes dripping in luxury. They're comfy, offers lots of room and performance ranges from good to great, especially if you go the whole hog and bag a SVR with the V8, which has all of the toys for good measure.
There's lots to enjoy even in a standard trim model though, including the likes of LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels and power-folding door mirrors. Inside, the F-Pace features faux-leather seats, an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), and a heated steering wheel and front seats (with eight-way electric adjustment). Tech highlights include a 3D surround camera, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition with adaptive speed limiter.
Elsewhere, spend a little more and upgrade to a Jaguar F-Pace S model and you'll get an electric tailgate and real leather seats (with 12-way electric adjustment in the front). Desirable features on the Jaguar F-Pace SE include 16-way electric seat adjustment, a digital driver display and the blind spot assist pack. It also comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and animated indicators.

The Jaguar F-Pace was pretty heavily improved in 2021 with a revised engine line-up, improved interior quality and fresh technology. If your budget will stretch to a nearly-new model, we'd highly recommend opting for a post-facelift example.
The diesels make sense for a lot of buyers (the plug-in hybrid probably isn't worth the expense unless you're a company car driver) – we rate the bigger six-cylinder units, although the entry-level 2.0-litre diesel is fine if you're watching the pennies.
Running a Jaguar F-Pace needn't be as expensive as you'd think although it does rather depend on the model you choose. That's even more so with the current crop of engines but it has to be said the most exciting of the lot is still the SVR, thanks to its 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine that delivers 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds on earlier examples and 4 seconds on the revised model. Sadly, it also returns around 23.1mpg.
Alternatively, the plug-in hybrid P400e offers up to 33 miles using electric power, so it's an option worth thinking about if you pootle around town or do school runs regularly.
Older Jaguar F-Pace models were offered with a manual gearbox and two-wheel drive, but these sold in very small numbers. The range went four-wheel drive and automatic only from 2021.

A Jaguar F-Pace D165 will be the most affordable to insure thanks to its 28E insurance group. A mid-range R-Dynamic model with the D200 engine falls into insurance group 35E, while the beefy SVR is in the highest insurance category, sitting in group 50E.
It's worth noting that the plug-in hybrid P400 is also quite expensive to insure, as it's been placed into group 43e in R-Dynamic trim. That's comparable with rivals, though, and we'd always recommend shopping around for insurance quotes (especially if you're a relatively new driver).
Jaguar F-Pace models registered since the beginning of April 2017 will cost £150 a year in VED (road tax), plus an extra £325 a year in premium car tax for five years for those with a list price of more than £40,000 (which is essentially most of them). Look out for plug-in and mild-hybrid options, which qualify for a £10/year discount.
Cars registered before April 2017 will be taxed depending on their CO2 emissions. This could provide quite a significant saving, so it might be worth hunting out an early model. If you really want free car tax, you'll need to look at an electric alternative like the Jaguar I-Pace.
