The Bentley Bentayga is a luxury SUV that is available in either petrol or plug-in hybrid variants with a discontinued diesel worth thinking about too. It’s a luxurious five-seater that comes with all the premium trimmings you associate with the Bentley brand.
This is also Bentley’s first high-up 4x4, which means that alongside the luxury there’s go-anywhere appeal too. However, the main attraction of the Bentley Bentayga is the way it combines the SUV design with the usual Bentley luxury accoutrements.
The interior of the Bentley Bentayga is what you’d expect from Bentley, but this SUV also packs in plenty of tech, including a sizeable 10.9-inch touchscreen, though some components will be recognisable as originating from Audi. But only to the trained eye.
Anyone contemplating stepping up and into the world of the luxurious Bentley Bentayga should also consider the premium competition. The key rival has to be the Rolls-Royce Cullinan or the cheaper Range Rover if budget is an issue. There's also the Lamborghini Urus if you're keen to turn heads.
If you’re looking to buy or lease a Bentley Bentayga then numbers are reasonably limited, but there is choice available. Take a look at a Bentley Bentayga for sale on heycar to discover just what’s on offer.
Given its exclusivity, the Bentley Bentayga is not too common a site on the road, which gives it surefire appeal if you’re looking to make a statement.
While there are alternatives to consider, like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan or the Lamborghini Urus to name a couple of standout contenders, you’re getting a Bentley and that comes with a fantastic pedigree.
Better still, the Bentley Bentayga will be ideally suited to many of today’s car buyers who prefer the high-riding appeal of an SUV. Add in the luxe factor, performance and an abundance of space inside and the Bentley Bentayga really shines over the competition.
While running costs probably aren’t going to be an issue if you’re considering a Bentley Bentayga, it is worth looking at used V8 petrol engine models over the W12 petrol. However, given the weight of the Bentley Bentayga both are generally considered to be thirsty for what they do. One of the now discontinued V8 diesels might, therefore, be the better option.
Bentley is keeping things bang up to date though with the 3-litre V6 petrol plug-in hybrid, which is another angle if you’re not after the grunt of those bigger engined cars. Whatever your engine choice, the eight-speed auto box manages the power nicely and provides a dream drive that requires little in the way of effort.
Aside from luxury and performance, the other big draw with the Bentley Bentayga is the space you get inside. While it’s beautifully appointed, the seats are hugely accommodating plus the boot has a decidedly generous 584-litres at your disposal. It’s not the biggest of its kind in this luxury sphere, but it’s still very good.
A Bentley Bentayga not for you? We've got 1000s of used cars for sale to suit all budgets and needs.
The following statement may sound like a cop out, but it applies more to the Bentayga than it does to most cars: that largely depends on what you want. There are various flavours of Bentayga, and each of them will suit different buyers with different priorities.
If you want the ultimate Bentayga, it has to be the Speed, with it’s enormous W12 petrol engine. If you want the cerebral choice, the V8 petrol will be more up your street, while if you spend your life ploughing up and down motorways, the V8 diesel will be the pick (you’ll still spend shedloads on fuel, but you’ll have to stop less often to put the stuff in). That said, if you’ve got one eye on either the environment or the Exchequer, then the plug-in hybrid version will be worth considering.
Choose from a range of engines for your used Bentley Bentayga, from a W12 petrol past V8 petrol and diesel powertrains and onwards to the more frugal end of the spectrum - a plug-in hybrid V6. That's going to be the best of the bunch for saving pennies on fuel, but that's the last thing people searching for a Bentley Bentayga tend to think about.
A big part of the appeal with owning a Bentley Bentayga is the way that it is going to be individual. Bentley obviously caters to a discerning customer base, so myriad trim options are available depending on customer taste and budget.
If you’re looking for a used Bentley Bentayga expect to find many different and often bespoke editions, all armed with their own personality.
Even in its most basic specification, the trim will be everything you’d expect from this luxury marque, with an abundance of wood and leather. However, equipment levels are premium too, with an audio system that starts with 1800W plus touchscreen interactivity for driver and passengers.

A Bentley Bentayga registered after April 1st, 2017, is liable for the maximum VED bill available under the current tax system, which is £475 per year between years two and six of the car’s life. It then moves to £150 every year after that, although the hybrid enjoys a £10 discount.
A Bentayga registered before that date will be taxed under the old CO2-related system. Cars of this era will be either W12s, which will cost you £580 per year, or diesels, which will cost £330.
Alongside the luxury expect to pay a premium for Bentley Bentayga insurance because it sits right at the top of the tree at group 50. This is the most expensive one there is, which means annual insurance figures are likely to be steep.
