2024 Hyundai Santa Fe: price, specs and release date

Written By Richard Aucock

New 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

The new Hyundai Santa Fe arrives in 2024 with a bold new look that’s sure to set it apart in the large 4x4 marketplace.

A roomy 7-seater SUV, the new Hyundai Santa Fe brings Land Rover Defender vibes to a more family-friendly price point. It also gives the Hyundai range an eye-catching range-topper to complement distinctive electric cars such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

The practical and worthy current-generation Hyundai Santa Fe will be transformed into a fascinating alternative to the more expensive Land Rover Defender and upcoming new Toyota Land Cruiser. Similarly-priced rivals will include the 7-seater Land Rover Discovery Sport, plus the Nissan X-Trail, Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe also has an in-house rival, the Kia Sorento, which is set to be facelifted for 2024.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe will be released in the UK in the first half of 2024. More specific timings are not yet available, but we’d estimate it will be nearer to the summer. Prices and technical information will be revealed ahead of this, and reservations for the new Hyundai Santa Fe may open early in 2024.

New Hyundai Santa Fe prices are likely to sit above the current car, which starts from around £43,000. We’d estimate new Hyundai Santa Fe prices will start from around £50,000, giving those buying or leasing the new model a very well-equipped car indeed.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe is a very distinctive new 7-seater SUV indeed. Those looking to buy or lease a 4x4-inspired new car will find plenty to like here, because it is a vehicle that embraces the ruggedness of off-roaders in a very modern, almost futuristic way.

At the front, the H-shaped design cues, including a ‘H’ LED motif in the headlights, help it look like no other car. There are large, boxy wheelarch extensions and a lengthened wheelbase that gives the new Hyundai Santa Fe added road presence. The front overhang is short, and large 21-inch alloy wheels give it a planted appearance.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe’s distinctive tailgate has a clean, practical appearance. The LED lights are arranged in a lower strip, which wraps around the rear, and contains more H-shaped elements. The new Hyundai Santa Fe has a range of colours inspired by nature. A choice of up to 10 will be available, including Terracotta Orange, Rockwood Green, Earthy Brass and Ecotronic Grey.

The designers say they started out creating the tailgate area of the new Hyundai Santa Fe, before moving on to the exterior. This means the boot space is extremely practical and well-shaped indeed. It has a 725-litre capacity with the seats up – that’s a huge 91 litres up on today’s car. The tailgate width opening of 1275mm is 145mm bigger than the current Hyundai Santa Fe.

Passenger space is suitably vast as well, with more than a metre of headroom for those in the front and middle-row seats, and still-generous room in the third row of seats (which fold flat into the floor when not needed).

As for the cabin, the new Hyundai Santa Fe marks a real step up in luxury and appearance over today’s car. There is a high-tech dashboard with dual 12.3-inch screens set beneath a panoramic curved display. Lower down, the climate control system, and other controls, use chunky physical buttons and switches for ease of use.

Available trims within the new Hyundai Santa Fe include Nappa leather seats, wood-pattered garnish and upmarket delicate embroidery. The new Hyundai Santa Fe will offer five interior colours too – Obsidian Black, Supersonic Grey, Pecan Brown, Forest Green and Black Ink.

New 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe: fuel economy and performance

When it arrives in the UK, the new Hyundai Santa Fe will offered with two engine choices. There will be a 1.6-litre turbo hybrid, and a 1.6-litre turbo plug-in hybrid. Both engines will come as standard with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid (also known as HEV) will have a power output of 180ps. The new Hyundai Santa Fe plug-in hybrid (also known as PHEV) will have more than 200ps, but final power figures haven’t been confirmed.

Hyundai is also yet to reveal fuel economy and performance figures for the new Santa Fe. We expect both models will accelerate from 0-62mph in around 9.0 seconds. The new Hyundai Santa Fe HEV will have fuel economy of at least 40mpg.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV will have a longer electric range than the 36-mile range of today’s model. This will enable it to drive in pure EV mode for much longer, which will also boost its official fuel economy figures, and reduce the CO2 figures. This will be of particular interest to company car drivers.

Details of the new Hyundai Santa Fe’s rugged 4x4 systems will be revealed nearer to launch. Expect it to be capable off road, but also comfortable on it. There will be a good array of safety assist systems too – again, with functionality both on road and off it.

Can’t wait for a new Hyundai Santa Fe? Time to consider a Land Rover Defender 110…

The Hyundai Santa Fe has never been mentioned in the same breath as the premium Land Rover Defender – until now. The Hyundai doesn’t arrive until 2024, and if you can’t wait that long, why not consider a used Land Rover Defender? The advantage here will be prices that, thanks to depreciation, are a little closer to those of the hotly-anticipated Hyundai – although as the Defender remains much in-demand, don’t expect too much of a saving over new…

Introducing the all-new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

The new Hyundai Santa Fe is a large SUV measuring 4830mm long, 1900mm wide and from 1720mm tall, including its roof bars.

There will not be a new Hyundai Santa Fe diesel. The new model will only be sold in HEV hybrid and PHEV plug-in hybrid guise, both with a turbo petrol engine.

The original Hyundai Santa Fe was a breakthrough car for the firm back in the early 2000s. Several generations since then have proven worthy, but it is this fifth-generation new Hyundai Santa Fe that’s set to recreate the impact of that pivotal original.
