Cupra's first all-electric SUV, the Tavascan, goes on sale on 11 September, 2024.
Prices from £47,340, the new Cupra Tavascan comes in a choice of four trims with two power outputs, both of which will make for a pretty quick family car. Depending on the specification, customers can expect a battery range of up to 352 miles.
The Tavascan shares much of its mechanical underpinnings with the Audi Q4 E-tron and the Volkswagen ID.4, but has an altogether sportier look and feel that is likely to see it line up on customers' shortlists alongside the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6. Other rivals will include the Nissan Ariya, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Volkswagen ID.5 and the Tesla Model Y.
New 2024 Cupra Tavascan: price and release date
The order books for the Cupra Tavascan open on 11 September, 2024, although the first 50 cars are available for reservation right now at the Cupra website. Prices start at £47,340 for the entry-level Tavascan V1 trim, which comes with the lower-powered 286PS motor.
The V2 trim costs £53,835. If you want the more powerful 340PS motor, you'll need to start your search with the VZ1, which costs from £55,935, while the VZ2 trim costs from £60,835.
New 2024 Cupra Tavascan: exterior and interior
The Tavascan continues Cupra's evolution as a brand of its own, not just a rebadging of existing SEATs. Hot on the heels of the Formentor SUV and the also-all-electric Born hatchback, the Tavascan is all Cupra, with a distinctive, very sporty look both inside and out. A low, wide stance and big wheels give it that purposeful stance that Cupra says will be mirrored in the driving experience. LED headlights and rear lights are standard.
It's a mid-size, five-seat SUV that's a similar size to the rivals listed above. The interior, in particular, is quite different from other Cupra models, with a high centre console between the front seats, a curved dashboard and a large 15-inch infotainment screen angled towards the drive. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range.
There's also an ambient lighting system built into the cabin, and three-zone climate control is included as standard.
A flat floor in the back should allow room for five and there's a 540-litre boot, although no front boot or "frunk" under the bonnet.
New 2024 Cupra Tavascan: powertrains and performance
There's a choice of two power outputs in the Tavascan, with a single 77kWh battery for both. V1 and V2 models get the entry-level, single-motor version, but it's still powerful with 286PS and 545Nm, giving it a 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds. Cupra promises a range of up to 353 miles according to official figures.
The VZ1 and VZ2 models get extra oomph with two motors providing 340PS, although the torque remains unchanged at 545Nm. The dual motors drive all four wheels, which drops the 0-62mph time to 5.5 seconds, but the extra power also drops the range slightly to 339 miles.
New 2024 Cupra Tavascan: trim levels
Cupra has split the Tavascan into four trim levels, two for each power output. Cars with the 286PS motor are available in V1 and V2 trims, while cars with the 340PS motor come in VZ1 and VZ2 forms.
The V1 comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels and the full infotainment system described above, as well as a wireless phone charger and a rear-view camera.
The V2 trim upgrades to 21-inch wheels and matrix LED headlights, which lets you maintain full beam without dazzling oncoming traffic. It also adaptive suspension that lets you set the car up for comfort or performance. In addition, the V2 has a panoramic sunroof, an augmented reality head up display and a Sennheiser sound system with 12 speakers. The front seats are heated and upholstered in a synthetic suede.
The VZ1 trim is identical to the V2, save for the extra power and all-wheel drive, while the VZ2 adds leather upholstery, upgraded forged alloy wheels and ventilated bucket seats.
The single-motor Cupra Tavascan can manage up to 353 miles on a single charge, according to official figures. The dual-motor model will manage up to 339 miles.
All versions of the 2024 Cupra Tavascan can charge at up to 135kW, meaning a 10% to 80% charge in around half an hour.
The Cupra Tavascan is a mid-size SUV. It measures 4644mm in length and 1861mm in width, with a 2766mm wheelbase. It's 1597mm high.
