New 2024 MINI Cooper: Price, specs and release date

The new MINI Cooper arrives in spring 2024 as an all-new version of the famous retro small car – and a petrol-powered alternative to the new MINI Cooper Electric.

Visually almost identical to its electric car sibling, the new MINI Cooper will be offered with a choice of two petrol engines.

Just as with classic models, the new MINI Cooper is a sporty three-door, with city-sized dimensions and a focus on urban excellence.

The new MINI Cooper will go up against the similarly-retro Fiat 500, alongside more practical five-door small cars such as the Kia Picanto and Hyundai i20. The Toyota Aygo X is another funky-looking alternative.

The new MINI Cooper has already been released for sale and can now be configured with first deliveries due in spring 2024.

The new MINI Cooper will be sold with a choice of two petrol engines. The new MINI Cooper C costs from £23,090 and new MINI Cooper S prices start from £27,225.

Both new MINI Cooper C and MINI Cooper S are available in three different styles – either Classic, Exclusive or Sport.

New 2024 MINI Cooper: exterior and interior

The new MINI Cooper has the same retro-themed but super-modern exterior as the new MINI Cooper Electric. A top tip to tell them apart at a glance are the doorhandles – they’re flush-fit on the electric MINI, while this new MINI Cooper has traditional exposed doorhandles.

The new MINI Cooper’s purist design has clean surfaces, short overhangs and a short bonnet. The octagonal grille is new and the circular LED headlights are a new design – optionally available with three customisable light signatures.

The new MINI Cooper has a longer wheelbase, a choice of stylish alloy wheels up to 18 inches in size and, at the rear, all-new matrix lights which can be switched to different customisable modes.

The new MINI Cooper also showcases which engine it has on a decorative strip above the registration plate – either ‘C’ or ‘S’.

The new MINI Cooper offers a different range of exterior colours and finishes, depending on which model it is. The new MINI Cooper Classic is offered in a choice of five colours, including new Ocean Wave Green and Sunny Side Yellow. There are two contrast roof colours and three different wheel options.

The new MINI Cooper Exclusive adds the option of British Racing Green, a Vibrant Silver front grille and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, with two 18-inch options.

The new MINI Cooper Sport has high-gloss black exterior trim and a rear spoiler with airblades. It has standard 18-inch JCW Lap Spoke two-tone alloy wheels, and the option of a contrasting Chili Red roof and red and black bonnet stripes.

Inside, the new MINI Cooper has a bold new appearance that’s centred on three elements – a fresh design of steering wheel, a stunning new 24-inch circular OLED display, and a simple toggle bar of controls. The dashboard has a novel textile surface too.

The new MINI Cooper’s round OLED display packs in all the vehicle functions, which can be operated by voice control. It runs the very latest MINI Operating System 9. The upper half features vehicle-related information such as speed, with the lower half featuring navigation, media, phone and climate.

The new MINI Cooper’s home screen features thumbnail widgets at the side, and swiping up from the button reveals more favourite functions. The entire display can also be transformed into a classic-look MINI speedometer.

A fun feature in the new MINI Cooper is the intelligent personal assistant (IPA). Saying ‘hey MINI’ activates it – and it can even be combined with a 3D avatar, called Spike the dog.

The new MINI Cooper has a more open-plan feel than previous MINI, which is more in line with classic models. The gear selector is located in the toggle bar – all new MINI are automatic – which frees up space for a wireless smartphone charging shelf.

The new MINI Cooper has a 210-litre boot, which is a marginal 1 litre smaller than today’s car, but this expands to 725 litres with the rear seats folded.

New 2024 MINI Cooper: engines and gearboxes

The new MINI Cooper is available with a choice of two engines. The new MINI Cooper C produces 156PS and the new MINI Cooper S produces 204PS – meaning both new MINI models offer impressive performance.

The new MINI Cooper C has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This does 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds, with a standard automatic gearbox making it easy to drive. Averaging up to 47.9mpg, it has CO2 emissions from 133g/km.

The new MINI Cooper S has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. It does 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds and averages up to 46.3mpg, with CO2 emissions from 138g/km.

The new MINI Cooper petrol-engine models are “ideal for those who want to drive a classic MINI 3-door and appreciate the traditional performance and characteristic sound of a combustion engine” said head of MINI Stefanie Wurst.

Both new MINI Cooper models boast sporty suspension for precise handling, and powerful brakes. There are also various driver assistance features.

Using 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras, a new MINI Cooper Driving Assistant Plus package provides support for steering, lane keeping and automatic speed and distance control.
