Used Nissan NV200 for sale: everything you need to know

The compact and practical Nissan NV200 has been a big hit with people looking for a van that's agile enough to get in and out of town, still prove comfortable on longer runs, but still features a generous cargo or people carrying capacity.

Although it's a small van, the Nissan NV200 has lots of space, with a cargo area that is 1.22m wide and 2.04m long, meaning that it's more than capable of carrying a wide variety of payloads. It has also been designed with versatility in mind, including a best-in-class loading height, with model variants that allow quick and easy adjustment of the interior layout thereby allowing for more awkward loads to be carried.

While the Nissan NV200's interior could be best described as utilitarian, used examples do come with all the basics. Plus, there are lots of handy cubby holes that allow for additional storage, which makes it ideally suited to tradesfolk.

Nissan has always kept the powertrain options simple for the NV200 van too, with both diesel and electric options proving popular. Adding to the practical appeal of this small panel van, there are also variations on the theme, which feature five or seven seats in a combi format if you're not keen on the standard edition panel model.

Should you buy a Nissan NV200?

If you're looking for a used small van the Nissan NV200 will meet a lot, if not all of your requirements. What makes the Nissan NV200 even better though is the way it feels to drive. This compact panel van has many car-like properties, plus there's a decent turning circle, which adds to the overall practicality.

While it's not the most exciting of vans to look at, there are plenty of used examples around and, thanks to the simple powertrain options, buying one should be straightforward and generally fuss-free. Admittedly, the 795kg maximum payload might not match rival options, but the easy access offered by its versatile design more than makes up for that.

Despite its compact size, the Nissan NV200 is up against stiff competition, with the larger Nissan NV300 being a good used option if you'd like to stay with the Japanese brand. Alternatively, the Ford Transit Connect, Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo commercials all look like great contenders if you're not convinced of the appeal.

What’s the best used Nissan NV200 model to buy?

The lack of choice in the NV200 range makes picking which model to go for relatively simple. There is only the one body style for the panel van, while for most of its life there was only a 1.5-litre diesel with 90PS. Given the choice, the 110PS is nippier and a better all-round option.

The entry-level trim, Visia, is relatively sparse, with air conditioning not coming until the top-level Tekna model. The gap between the different models is not huge price wise, and this will have narrowed on the second-hand market. If you can find a Tekna model at a price that makes sense then this would be the version to get – it also adds a reversing camera, satellite navigation and air conditioning.

Used Nissan NV200 fuel economy and performance

The Nissan NV200 comes in two different powertrain editions, with increasingly the e-NV200 looking more appealing over its diesel counterpart thanks to an undeniably practical 124 miles of range on more recent models.

  • Nissan NV200 1.5L diesel: There are two variants of the diesel engine, with the 110PS unit being the one to go for over the 90PS variant. Either way, fuel economy should be in the region of 35mpg.
  • Nissan e-NV200 : Increasingly popular with tradespeople and delivery folk, the 40kWh battery used in the EV edition of the NV200 can be charged to 80% in around 40 minutes on a fast charger and around 7.5 hours on a 7kW home unit, making it ideal for overnight recharges. Range is in the region of 124 miles.

What used Nissan NV200 trim levels are available?

Considering the Nissan NV200 was essentially designed for commercial use, and its two-seater straightforward panel van edition underlines that, you can also get used examples with up to seven seats.

The Nissan NV200 is pretty basic but in two-seater form comes with the bonus of lots of extra storage points, which makes it so appealing to commercial owners. The panel van edition is predictably spartan with only a basic selection of kit on offer. Controls are practical rather than high-tech, although the NV200 is an easy van to get comfortable in, which is one of the main considerations if you're spending long hours sitting inside it.

  • The Nissan NV200 Visia is the more basic of the trim options, with little in the way of frills.
  • The Nissan NV200 Tekna comes with a few more extras, including a reversing camera, satellite navigation and air conditioning, which makes it the model to go for on the used front.

Used Nissan NV200 dimensions and boot size

The Nissan NV200 comes in various body options, so its dimensions and capacity vary depending on numerous factors, including whether it's just the cargo-carrying model or one fitted with up to 7 seats.

The Nissan NV200’s dimensions are:

  • Length: 4400mm
  • Width: 1690mm
  • Height: 1858mm
  • Ground clearance: 174mm - 180mm

The Nissan NV200’s payload size is:

  • 4.2m3
  • 795-kilograms
  • 2040mm load length
  • 1220mm load width
  • 1358mm load height

Used Nissan NV200 road tax

The Nissan NV200 is taxed as a van so is eligible for the flat-rate, low commercial vehicle tax. It is also therefore eligible for the flat-rate Benefit-in-Kind tax that applies to commercial vehicles.

How much is it to insure a Nissan NV200?

If you're looking for a used Nissan NV200 the good news is that there's very little difference between the different panel van versions. The basic model sits in group 5E while the range-topper lands in 6E. The crew van and the combi are both more expensive to insure, sitting in groups 10E or 11E. This is the case regardless of whether you go for the five-seat version or the seven-seater.
